I honestly think it looked better in the magazine feature than those show pictures. Looks more like a sattin finish and the rims arent so flashy in the magazine.

Fantastic truck but I'll agree that it is a bit pricey for a truck that already has had it's time in the spotlite. Show cars and trucks of that caliber usually have one or two years where they win big and then they are last years news at most events. The price may not have been that far off if it had never been shown before so the buyer could enjoy those wins for his money.

Thanks for the props guys, The truck was alot of hard work. It has had it's day in the spotlight and I have to decide whether to drive the piss out of it or sell it to build one of the other many projects I have acquired parts for. I enjoy building way more then driving and cleaning a way to nice show piece.

thats the problem with all these big shops now days they want so much to restore a car and even more when it is time to sell it. It makes it hard for working guys like us to do alot anymore

I understand even if I can't afford. These guys have to eat too. Usually a good shop only has 3 or 4 really great " bread and butter" customers that really pay for huge custom work and the rest is small time stuff (if they are lucky). They have to pay several salaries plus supplies and rent and utilities. This is all fun but still a skill and still a business.

I also understand the price being a little high on the 57 but look at the hours and REALLY look at that frame work. None of us here have that level in our own trucks. It's like comparing a base model Vette to a top of the line hand built Ferrari. They look similar and both drive great but they ARE different classes of automobile and the price reflects it.

I'd imagine that Ironworks is loosing money when they put dollars to hours on a truck of that caliber.

If I had that kind of $$, I'd MUCH rather have their truck than the Ferrari, Porsche, or whatever.

Your absolutely correct. The cost to build this truck is way over the asking price. There are so many hand build details that take so much time. Take the pedals under the dash cost over 2K when you add up all the time for design, machine and assembly. The exhaust is all mandrel bend U bends TIG welded together and the each weld is sanded perfectly smooth. The bed was completely from scratch to hide the actuators for the tonneau and cover the 285 rear tire with out narrowing the correct width on the bed. Just the custom built and machined parts on the engine are ridiculous, valve covers, Reworked Kinsler stack injection unit ( The kinsler is not cheap to start with ) let alone what we did to get it to work like it does. Every piece of aluminum in the interior and on the fuel tank was water jet cut, the each hole was counter bored and chamfered for just the right look before it was polished then anodized to keep the anodized parts from looking purple but have the anodized look.

Projects like these are just hours and time. Our shop labor rate is 65 per hour, you can barely get you lawn mowed for 65 per hour anymore. Plus in this line of work you have to have very expensive tool to make the already extreme amount of time need somewhat reasonable.

I use the example of buying a New York Steak. You can get one that tastes like beef jerky for 2.99 and you can get one at Sizzler for 8.99 and you can get one at the Outback for 17.99. They are all New York steaks just some are way more money for some understood level of quality. There are guys out there that love their 2.99 steak and will never see the point in going to the Outback for a 17.99 Special.... Haha Some special. Then you will have guys who would rather starve then have a 2.99 New York. And if you ever got a chance to go to a Ruth Chris ( I probably misspelled it, I could only afford to go once in my life) steak house and have a 40 dollar New York you may think the Outback one is junk, But you may not be able to afford it every night after work. But there are those that can.

The guys that we have done work for on the rather high end, Understand you not in here for value, Not that we don't do good work or honest billing, But it does not make sense to do the of the things we do. The 48 truck we are doing has so much work into things most people will never ever notice. We did not chop it 8" and make it a crew cab, We just gave it a trim and shave. But the customer loves it and has been here the whole time and put his input in to get where we are at. He enjoys the build and has the money to fund what he wants. He has built more cars in his life then most people I know, He just has the money from his hard work in business to really do some nice stuff.

Truck is definitely worth 175k to the buyer willing to pay that amount and that is all that matters. People buy a Buggatti Veyron that can go 0-60 in 2.5 sec, top speed of 250MPH +.......where are you going to drive it? Doesn't matter if the buyer likes what he bought.

Having built two "Truck of the Year" winners, I may have a different take. The billing out for the '04 TotY F-100 was sell over 2x what Roger is asking for his 57, and, in the end, our shop net was less than $30/hr - we lost $ on the job. Roger built that himself, to show what he is capable of, and it IS BAD ASS. For the future of our industry, I hope he gets his price. It's good for all of us if he does. Thanks Rob, I think anybody who builds truck in their garage or at a shop should really for their own knowledge but a time clock to really get a grasp of hour much time it really takes to build this stuff. I had no idea or plan that this truck would ever turn out as nice as it has.

Looks like a bargain to me, if that's what you want. Have you guys priced out doing any part of that truck on that level lately? Heck, just getting a good coat of chrome on ONE of those injector stacks would set you back $75 bucks. Anybody know how many parts make up your average classic truck? When you consider every one of them on that truck has had hands laid on it...it adds up. They're probably losing money...
