4", 6", or 8" inch lift

i have a 79 3/4 ton long bed and i want to lift it and run 37's but i cant decide on what lift i want ive seen trucks with all three sizes and they all look good. im looking for functionality as well as fun. im just stumped.

6 is about as small as that will clear.

go BIG, go 8"!
you'll put a 4 or a 6 on & in a yr or two you'll be wanting to go bigger.
8" will give you a nice not tire stuffed in the fender look.
i'm running 8" & BW cut-outs & i have fit a 42" with no probs, current 38's look on the small side

personally i dont like anything bigger than a 35.

I'm going 4"s and 35s. If I had 37s I would go 6"s.


I would skip 8" and go to 12-14" with 44"s or tractor tires.

Once you start lifting you always want to go higher... Same thing goes the other way around.

Do a 6" kit...A 8" will put u over the Va.State Law (if that's a issue???) A 6" will require more parts than will a 4" I'd ask u how good the body was? Chevy fenders always need jus a little modifying. It all depends on how wide of a 37 tire n wheel u go with? remember the wider u go...the higher u must go!!!

if you hate tire rub and don't want to modify you're fenders, you need an 8'' lift. i had a 4'' lift with 35's on my one ton and they rubbed a ton-even with lightly modded fenders! of course, a lot depends on wheel backspacing...

I have 4" with 35-12.50's on a 15x7 wheel, no offset either way. Never rubbed. Now i added a 3" body lift with 38-16's on a 15x14 wheel, 3.5" BS. Barely rubs. You'll want 8" for sure... Dieseldawg what are some good riding tires you don't mind me asking? Mine are outta round from the guy i gotem from > i will go 37-14's since new tires will have new tread... How are baja clawz?

I've got 33" boggers on 15x10s right now and they scrub like crazy if there is any articulation. Hopefully I'll be okay with 4"s and 35s with those rims

thats a pretty subjective question 79Betty!
lots of diff tires out there-no way i'd say whats best, over 35 inchers i'v run swampers, pro comps & toyo's.
swamps are good for off-road-thats about it, pretty much the only time i throw mine on now
pro comps (xt's), extremely noisy, extremely fast wearing
toyo open country M/T's, for a big tire it balances beautifully (and lightly), has an awesome 4000lb load rating, very smooth & good handling, good in just about everything, & very long lasting.
when my current toyo's wear out, i'm sold-will be buying another set as much as i hate having the word "toyo" on my truck!
under 35's,have run many types, but always come back to BF at's or mt's

My motto is keep it low, the lower the Center of gravity the better.
I don't mind trimming the fenders though.
I ran 35's on a stock height K20 burb, just trimmed the fenders.
I plan on running 37-40" tires on my crew with a 4-5" lift and trimming the fenders.
I'm all about function over looks.

nothing wrong with keeping it low with big tires, also nothing wrong going hi with big tires
i too am all about function over form, i just have to lift my function higher to load it

Its simpler then you think.First a 4 inch lift is just a good tough stance..a heavy duty level if you will.. The truck will be shoulder high the truck's purpose would just be a normal look.If you want a 6 inch lift which is what I want to get after wanting a 4 for so long and would highly recommend as its not to overly aggressive and high but enough to say hey I got a good lift here.And I think it would be cheaper to get a 6 rather then a 7 or more due to it just be extremely high and you will have to tamper with unbolts and driveshaft etc extension plus the gas will kill you for no point at all.The 6 will also fix 37s but ineptly go with 35s.Guys like to go overly big on tires for no reason at all.Hell I would fix 32 inch tires like I have now at center level.Bcause the gas won't be so bad and the wheels will have hardcore power in dirt and sand at 32 inch anything more its to heavy!.Not counting 35s cost double$.

I have 32s on my sagging as you can sag on a truck 82 silverado and turnig radius is maximus to and he treads are preety meaty!.You can easily fit 35s on a 4 inch and 37s on a 6 inch!.Butni personally don't like meaty tires filling the wells say on a 6 inch.That is so overdone nowadays its all about tall and skinny tires I get so many complements on my 32 inch enduro mud tires.

I might think on toyo's then. Mine will be mostly street and i have another set of wheels tires to throw on when i bog it... (Bias ply swampers) i really like the look of clawz... Guess it comes down to price actually...

Depends on the width of the 37's. If you stay with a 12.50-13.50 wide tire and run an 8" wide wheel with about 4" of backspacing, I'd say you could do a 6" and be fine. If you want wider than that, go 8". For reference, here is my old truck. I had 6" in the suspension and 3" in the body for a total of 9". It cleared 38x15.50's with no trouble at all on a 16x10 wheel with 5" of backspacing. I easily could have cleared 40's with no fender trimming, or 42's with the Bushwacker Cutout flares I installed.



I also ran Baja Claw Radials, which I see you're interested in. I highly recommend them. They performed excellently off road and on road as well. They were surprisingly not as noisy as I thought they would be on pavement, at least going forward. In reverse even at low speed they sounded like a jet turbine spooling up! Good tire all the way around, I'd buy them again.

this is my thing i use the bed and drive alot on the highway so i keep it low.

I have a 3/4 ton that I ran 33s on with no rubbing, im almost sure they were 12.5 wide. if you want 37s go 6inch with the right back spacing on a new set of rims you should have no problem. I haven't owned a lifted truck myself but have worked on many. If you looking for a really nice company to get a 4 or 6 from I would go rough country. its cheap and you can get all new springs for short money in one of their lift kits. I say there good cause a friend of mine has a 6inch kit on his 85 and it has been beet to death with no breaks on the suspension... just u joints axles transmissions clutches and engines.

Exactly! I been using a 6" lifted truck for work almost 4 years now & it works great! It spends lots of time on off camber trails thru pastures without any issues about stability,Usually have around 1000lbs of tools & parts in the box as well.
