1969 gmc c2500 clutch problems

so my clutch has been acting up real bad, if i crank the truck up in neutral it will not go in gear and itll just grind, but if i crank the truck up in gear with the clutch in it'll jerk forward just a bit and then it's itll go in gear but the clutch still wont fully engage, i tried adjusting the nut on the linkage and i cant really adjust it mutch because part of the linkage is hitting the exhaust manifold, but what i could adjust seemed to make the peddle even worse and now it feels really stiff, thanks in advance for any advise yall can give
