I have an Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carb on my 350. Because of my HEI and air cleaner I have to use a 1 1/4" filter spacer. I am thinking of replacing it with a carb spacer, but I am wondering if that will give me more power. Have any of you used them before?

I have a similar set up on my 383, 1406 on top of a 2101 intake with HEI. I talked to Edelbrock for a bit and they seemed pretty confident that I would gain low end and maybe a bit of mid range torque. They were adamant that I use the 4 hole spacer as opposed to the open one. Maybe one of these days I'll buy one of those hybrid spacers, but I'll try this 4 hole for now. I just got the truck running a couple weeks ago, and haven't had the chance to really try it out though. It seems more "torquey" than before when I just had the 1/4" tall filter spacer.

Spacers work but like the article says it depends on what you want from it, what kind you are using and what is the rest of your setup. I use a 1" open plain spacer on my engine. It makes a little more top end power at the expense of robbing some bottom end power. Since I have enough bottom end power to fry the tires whenever I want, it makes sense for me to move that power up in the RPM's where I can get some use from it. If you aren't making tire smoking torque already, then an open plane spacer is not for you.
That Super Sucker looks quite interesting. I might even try it some day and see what it does for Old Yeller.
