6 lug on c10 Chevy.

I have a '69 long bed Custom c10, not sure what engine it had, only that it was a v8 with a manual transmission, this was not a 4x4, just 2 wheel drive.

Why is it that some c10's have 5 lug and some 6 lugs? Is the 6 lug a more heavy duty style of a c10 sort of what GM did in the 70's when they made the Big 10?

My other question is: Can my '72 disc brake spindles accept a 6 lug rotor? I was hoping to use the '69, 6 lug rear end in my '72 which has a blown rear end.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have a picture of the SPID? That will tell you what engine the truck came with.

I believe all C 10 had 6 lug thru '70. With the 71-72 they were 5 lug w disc brakes.

Thank you, that seems to make a bit of sense.

35 is right.
from 1960 (at least) through the 1970 model year, the C-10s were six lug, with drum brakes. 1971-72 were five lug with disc brakes on the front

Re: 6 lug on c10 Chevy.

Not to be mean to all people. But there are a lot more stupid People in this world now days. But a friend of mine told me GM has not been Fair about saying what is 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton.Now from the war time GM Was mostly 6 lug from 1940-1970.Then 1971-1998 they went back to the 6 lug.Now I know that GM wor what ever reason why they went from the C10 to the c1500 an 2500 3500 trucks.

But Its common knowledge that 8 lugs means C20 or C2500 there 3/4 ton trucks or up to 2 ton trucks.

One more easy way to tell if you have a 1/2 ton from a 3/4 ton from 1950--1970.You have to undo 8 small bolts to remove the rear Drum on a 3/4 ton 8 lug truck 1971-72 used Dana's where the drum slides off

I am not sure on this. Aftermarket companies make 6 lug rotors to keep the swap easier, without having to change the rear brakes. One thing to keep in mind is that your original 6 lug wheels may NOT bolt up to the 6 lug disc brake setup, because of possible brake caliper interference...

You would need to call companies offering the 6 lug disc brake conversions and ask...

Re: 6 lug on c10 Chevy.

I converted my 68 to disk brakes many years ago and stayed with the 6 lug. Sometimes I regret it because there are so many more wheels to choose from regarding the 5 lug. I liked my wheels at the time and didn't want to swap the axles in the rear.
I do know the aftermarket 6 lug disks are expensive. And I am not sure they can be used on the factory setup ?

Aftermarket 6-lug rotors are not that expensive, unless you go with drilled and slotted, or big brake setups. Rock auto has 12” rotors for under $100 each.

Re: 6 lug on c10 Chevy.

I think "Classic Performance Upgraded Disc Conversion Rotors CP4R-6" will work if the original 72 rotors were 1.25" thick. If not you will need spindles from a heavy half square body.

71-72 spindles are the 1-1/4” version also.
So are all the disc brake conversion spindles made for 60-62 and 63-70 c10’s
