Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

I've recently had this truck offered to me in trade for my 65 Impala Supersport, but honestly have no idea what a realistic market value would be on it... The owner indicates that it was originally a 6 cyl stepside truck with a 3 speed on the column. It now has a 350 w/ th350, power steering and brakes, rear air bags, couple inch drop in the front, and newer model swb with the side marker lights. It has obviously been changed quite a bit from the original configuration, but appears to be a nice truck. Any idea what a fair market price would be on something like this? Is there much demand for these out there? Ideally I'm trying to work my way back into a swb 4x4, but maybe i'd have better luck looking for a swap with this as trade bait rather than the Impala... Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, or clues as to what I could get out of a truck like this? He's asking $9500 (same as I'm asking for my car), but is that realistic?

Very nice truck, but seems a little high for me, especially in this economy. More like a $6000-$7000 truck, IMO.

Re: Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

one thing that caught my attention is that the bed has marker lights in it and i know it was converted from a stepper to a fleet but the 67's has no markers could hurt the value for someone who want a true 67 just my .02

Id say thats a premium price for that truck. 65 Impala SS are a much rarer bird than a pick up.

Re: Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

He says that it is a 67 according to the VIN, but beyond that it is anyone's guess... What I'm hearing from you guys is pretty much what I was thinking to begin with, but I figured it was worth running it by everyone. I just haven't spent much time looking at 2wd trucks to know what they would actually sell for these days.

Nice truck....looking at the inside of the cab..it looks like it has a high hump so its possible that the cab might not be original also. Do you have a pic of the ignition bezel?

I'd rather have your SS for $9,500 than that truck for the same money ... that truck is priced about twice as high as what I would be willing to give judging by all the "wrong" parts on it and it be VIN'd as a '67.

Re: Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

It looks like a very solid and straight truck, but I agree on the price being a shy high.
6-7k range would be about right on, just by judging from the pics.

I look at the classifieds right here on the boards and I don't see how it's not worth $9,500.00. Perfect "Restoration"? No......but it's cheaper than a Kia Rio and, kept up, it'll still be worth most of the asking price when you grow tired of it.

Re: Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

Yeah, the bed with markers are a little weird looking for a '67, that will hurt original value. As nice as that truck is, I'd still rather have the '65 SS. But then again, I'm a '65 IMP freak. I had a '65 Belair when I was a kid, not an SS though. The value is probably in the SS, depending on condition(they are more rare). And, you mentioned that he wanted to trade it for your car. There's one reason, and one reason only, that he would want to do that....your car is worth more, plain and simple.

This is my truck and it was bought in that range Rust free, laser straight. Im not saying the blue truck is a bad truck, but from what I've seen, 9.5k is high.

TRUE

You guys out west and south are spoiled! ;-D I'm guessing if the paint is decent the PO had more in it than that.. imo keep the SS but still, for under 10k, I could have a lot of fun with that truck!

Re: Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

Why thank you BB72, I think I did okay on it. lol

Although I dont think I "stole it" by any means. The gentlman I bought the truck from did tell me he paid 11k for it in 05!!!!

So either he overpaid or I just underpaid, But the state of the economy is much much different than it was in 2005

Re: Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

Thanks for all the input guys! It is a nice looking truck, but I guess my biggest hangup is that there is nothing original about the thing... Seems like the value of originality fluctuates from person to person, but for me it adds a lot. I still have all of the numbers matching drivetrain for the Impala, and my 72' was still running numbers matching equipment throughout. That was what made it more unique in my mind... Probably going to hang on to the Impala and wait for a cash sale, or at least a trade with some cash thrown in. I have my eye on another 72 SWB 4x4 for around $6700 that looks pretty clean...

Re: Need some value feedback... 67 shorty 2wd

I agree with everyone here, it is a truck that has been put together from a few other trucks. However I don't believe that to be a problem or make it worth any less than it would be otherwise. I would question the fact that he says it was a 3 speed on the column truck. Like clos69 says it has a high tunnel. High tunnels were only present in 4 speed trucks, 4X4 trucks, and big block trucks. So when you combine that with the fact that it is a big window truck, it may have had the vins switched. There are big window 67s but it is something that needs to be looked at. I would also look realy close to the quality of workmanship. If the truck was blown apart to paint, I would wonder why he didn't paint the core support and inner fenders. The wire harness that I can see look like originals to me also. If who ever built the truck was willing to cut corners there, It makes me wonder about other places. It also may just be that he was running low on money toward the end of the build, but still worth a closer look. JMO.. Everything being on the up and up.... then I say why not. You evedently do not want the Impalla any more. I would definetly shave the rear side markers, or put 68 front fenders on it. It just doesn't look right otherwise. WES

Very true words coming from on expert in the field.

Stop looking at the originality, cause your now going to find it. Look at the quality of the work and the end result. If you want a mild custom, and the paint and body is done well, it's a pretty nice truck with some minor issues that could be fixed.

If your looking for a numbers matching restoration....pass!
