Back Chrome Cab Installation

On my 72 C20 I cannot figure out this chrome that goes on the back of the cab from door to door...how does it install...all I have is these little plastic things with a hole in them.

I havent installed one but i removed mine a couple nights ago. The plastic clips should lock over some tabs on the back of the cab and then you should be able to slide the stainless over the clips. At least that's how I took mine off. I'm sure somebody on here has installed them before.

Did your cab orginaly come with the trim? If soo- just put the little clip over the trim stud thingy coming out of the body. Put it on first with the big hole then slide it over to the small hole so it wont come off. Do this for all your plastic clips then line them flush and pop the trim on. Just a soft wack with your hand will work. The clips only go one way so you will need to study it to see which way they go...

If your truck didnt come with the trim orginaly (like mine) your gonna have to tape off a straight line to where the trim is going to go. You will need to go to Lowes or simialiar type store and buy some small screws. Take a plastic piece with you to the store. Yow will want the screws to be able to fit down into the small hole on the plastic pieces with out going out the back. Mark your spots around the back of your cab where the trim is going to go. Carefully drill very small holes to where each clip is going to go. I would also recommend in getting some 3m trim tape, cutting like 3/4 of an inch, roll the piece of tape up into a small circle- end to end and put the tape inside the back side of the trim on the corners near the door. So it will help hold the trim in place.

Pop on along the back first leaving the corners hanging away about 1/2 inch, slide the trim toward the center of the truck and then pop the corners on. Sounds confusing- but its not real hard to do... I did mine and my truck came with out the trim orginaly. It took about 2 hours total to do it....

Here is a thread where I posted some closeup pics of the cab trim install on my '71. I think you can buy the original style studs from the parts vendors and they screw in.

Thanks but mine only came with 6 clips...seems like there should be more?

Should have 6 per side plus the center coupling piece.... Are the clips a gray color?

Yea there light gray...why do I only have 6?

There should be another small clear bag with the clips in it maybe taped to the other piece of trim or in the box. It can fall out real easy. Go back and look at all the places the box has been since you opened it.....

Found it...mine came wrapped in plastic and they were taped in the inside.

yea custom cabs cst's and above had trim below the window
