Moon caps + trim rings - where to find?

And what do I need to look out for?

Basically, I've got some 15" steelies (5-lug) at home (see pictures about 20 posts down from here) - they're bone stock - and to stay on budget for my project, I'm going for a look like IvelDesigns truck (attached).

So ... just curious - I have the same stock 15" steelies, where do I find these thin trim rings and baby moon caps?

I think I remember seeing a thread around here that said you need to be careful with the trim rings because they make three or four different sizes and fits.

I think I saw the same comment with regard to the moon hubcaps.

Any and all help is appreciated.

See if this guy can help you out. I'm thinking about doing the same thing with the old steelies that came with my truck.

Re: Moon caps + trim wheres - where to find?

I found where Jegs is selling them (Mr Gasket brand) on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mr-Ga...3286.m20.l1116

I think I found some trim rings also. If Mr.Gasket makes this crap, guess I should hit the local auto parts store to see if they've got em.

I don't want wheels, I just want the caps

Thanks everyone for the advice and responses. I stopped by my local Advance Auto Parts tonight and they have the moons in stock, didn't have wheel measurements, so didn't buy them

I'm going to pressure wash the rims this weekend in the lovely 30º weather we're supposed to have and get them prepped and ready to paint to match the body color

Re: Moon caps + trim wheres - where to find?

I had an 87 Chevy pickup and the rings on those were the low profile kind. You might want to hit the junk yard to see or the 73-87 parts board.

Here's a few links for outfits that sell all manner of caps and rings for plain steel wheels.

Re: Moon caps + trim wheres - where to find?

Brothers Trucks has a set but I'm not sure if these are the kind that will fit over the center of the rim or in the center. From the picture they look like they fit over. I don't know if they'll fit on the original wheels either.

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodinfo.asp?number=1009

This is exactly what I wanted to do on my '68 but could never find any baby moons. I wanted to put some baby moons on it like what came on the early 70's Camaro's with the bowtie stamped in the middle. I still have the original wheels from my '68 and if I can find some baby moons to fit them then I will go with that wheel set up. My uncle actually has a set of baby moons like those that came on the early 70's Camaro's but I can't get him to sell them to me, his dad passed them down to him and he has them on his 70 LWB now. Here's a pic of a '70 Camaro my dad bought brand new and it had those baby moons like I want. The '68 in the background is mine, but it was my grandfather's and the pic was taken a few years after my grandfather bought it new.

Re: Moon caps + trim wheres - where to find?

If your wheels dont have the knobs for baby moons I dont know how you will mount them. If you figure out the diameter you need let me know, I have a brand new set of 5 that I would cut you a good deal on. I just dont want to see you spend the money for them & not be able to mount them...

Re: Moon caps + trim wheres - where to find?

I'm looking at the wheels on the red truck in the pic too and do not see the bumps the moons have to clip over. Those look to be the 88 and up steel wheel and do not have them. Shifty you may have to look for 87 back steelies for ones with the bumps.

Do these pics of the wheels help any?

These are the actual wheels I have, they look like they'll totally accept a trim ring, but I see what you're saying about how it doesn't seem like a moon cap would fit in the center.

I dunno, the wheels were basically free and not the permanent look of the truck. But I totally do want something that looks half-ass and IvelDesign's truck above (the red w/moons) is exactly the look I want when I start driving the truck again.

Re: Moon caps + trim wheres - where to find?

baby moons WILL work on those wheels. If you measure from arrow to arrow, it should give you a pretty good idea on the moon size you will need. The covers pop onto these knobs..
