Cab Removal: John Deere Style
I finally got to a point where the cab could be removed. My dad has been really sick the last couple of weeks (brain cancer) and hasn't been able to help much. I got the tractor out and figured I would give it a shot. Here's how it went. I will post pics of the state of the cab metal in another thread shortly.

Re: Cab Removal: John Deere Style
I had one that was loaded onto a trailer, by brute strength. Getting it off of the trailer took a backhoe, and used the front bucket with chains and 4x4's through the cab. We put it onto a dolly that I had built just for the cab. Then, plans got changed.
New plan had us picking up the new cab-on-dolly, the original cab-on-chassis and take the chassis/cab to the sons' house. We took the glass out and doors off; removed the brake booster/master cylinder, and then the 4 mounting bolts. At that point, my son and I slid the cab forward enough to know we couldn't do it by ourselves...and we were in his garage. No room to lift it any higher than needed to clear the front tires. So, he grabbed a couple of neighbors, and the four of us lifted it up, spun it around and then dropped it firewall down, into my trailer. No other way for it to fit, and no biggee since the firewall is swiss-cheezed. Sorry to hear your dad is ailing. Glad to see you took care of the task.

He's actually Stage IV...he's quitting chemo because it hasn't helped...it's been a long four years and he's done...can't say as I blame him. My truck is going to be our last project together.

Quality of life.....give him all of it that you possibly can. It's all that matters.
