Ls swap.

Where does everyone get their ls swaps from? Is the a dealer that specializes in them? I've been looking around and on eBay. There are some decent prospects on eBay and cl but thought I'd check with y'all too.

Re: Ls swap.

Be cautious with Car-Parts. There Are several message boards with horror stories on them. There is someone on this sight that sells them quite often in our Classified section. Seems to have reasonable deals too. He owns a junkyard I believe.

Would you know what his name is? I'm just looking for now. Will be a while before I pick one up.

Re: Ls swap.

Too bad your not closer, I have a ton of that stuff. Right now I have a fresh kill 04 Silverado truck that was wrecked in the right rear and it is a 3/4 so it is a 6.0 with the 4L80 E trans, since it is still in the truck a man [or woman for that matter] can crank the motor and listen to it run before making any choices about it. Getting one like that is the best way to go if at all possible and find someone that is easy to deal with that can[and will] take the time to pull the parts like he is pulling them for his own truck , not just for sale. Then you know you have truly found you a car/truck guy/gal that cares about your projects success and they understand the importance of good parts. If you can get one off of a complete truck like the one we are discussing here, be sure to get things like the TAC module[That operates the electric throttle body and they are pretty year tricky] electric gas pedal so that you can tie all of that stuff in together,of course the wiring harness the PCM the UBEC if possible. Any crazy things that the yard guys may never need like the trans cross members[you might can use the mount ear on your cross member to help out] The drive shaft yoke, any thing like cooler lines, your buying a drive train most likely they will throw that stuff in[[I know I normally do to help a fellow rodder out]. Now if it is just some one changing out a motor and replacing one that has gone bad they don't get all those extra services. I wish you luck in finding you a motor or a motor trans combo, or a wrecked truck if you feel like going to that end to do that much work, you can always scrap out the left overs and recover some of the money that way. Re: Ls swap.

I also meant to tell you of course the 5.3 stuff is cheaper than the 6.0 and the 4.8 of course is cheaper still than the 6.0 or the 5.3. so it depends on how much you want to spend or need to spend on power, there is not that much difference in the 4.8 and the 5.3's some will argue that point but I think there all top notch and you can not go wrong with the LS change over. I have done sveral if there is anything I might be able to help with let me know. Jim

Awesome, thanks Jim. I'm actually looking to run a corvette 5.7. Just looking at prices right now.

Re: Ls swap.

I had good luck finding a ly6 6.0 and 4l80 combo with 60k miles for under four grand at United Truck Dismantlers in Marysville. If interested give Gary a call, he knows his ****. Came complete with wiring harness, fly by wire pedal, help he even threw in an extra intake....

I am curious how that can be true? Car-Part is just a listing of junkyards that say they have a certain part, it is up to you to figure out if they are legit or not. I have bought many parts after looking up on Car-Part. You can usually tell when they answer the phone if they know what they are talking about. As far as engines, I would shop locally. If there is a problem you are much more likely to get it taken care of. You can narrow a Car-Part search by state or region.
