hand brake 68 c-50

the hand brake on my c-50 dump truck isn't braking well. I can tell it is engaging the transmission but not enough to stop the truck on a hill. I'm not positive how to tighten it up. anybody done this before and point me in the right direction?

Re: hand brake 68 c-50

It starts to brake at the very top of extending the hand brake. I'm assuming there has got to be a way to tighten or adjust the linkage/line to make it engage the brake earlier as you lift up on the hand brake

Re: hand brake 68 c-50

Does your truck have the E brake handle that is floor mounted and raises to vericle position? If so it should have a rounded knurled knob at the top. You can usually adjust the brake by turning the knob clockwise. If it is is out of adjustment you back the adj. knob all the way off and adjust the brake shoe tighter to the drum, and then you can use the adj. knob again. If you adjust the shoe make sure to keep it centered and not dragging. Chances are you will need new lining if out of adjustment.

Re: hand brake 68 c-50

It has an e brake floor mounted that pulls straight up. There is very little resistance and I'm guessing needs to be tightened. Apparently this is done by turning the knob clockwise? Wow great news. As far as adjusting the shoe I haven't tried to do this nor know how.
