70 c10 drum to disk

I just picked up a 70 c10 swb and want to convert from drum to disk. Do i need to get upper and lower arms or can I just get a kit or if i"m lucky find some used disk Parts and use the arms that are on the truck. 350 v8.Any help would be great. I am a newbie to this. THANKS

Read the threads above^^^.
Then buy 63-70 conversion spindles.

The rest can be purchased locally.
71-87 HD rotors, calipers, bearings.
Use a 71-72 master cylinder and prop valve.
(or use an aftermarket M/C or prop valve).

Thanks guys, I just got off the phone with a guy that has a whole 71 cross member 5 lug disk for 300 does that sound reasonable

What Parts are you going to re-use?
Everything is wore out.
You will need all new balljoints, tie rods, rotors, calipers, bearings, a-arm cross shafts and bushings, etc.
You might reuse the spindles and the centerlink.

I had two 73-87 crossmember assemblies that went to scrap because I couldn't sell them for $50.
Save your money and buy new parts.

I plan on using the conversion spindle on my 69 when I add disk brakes.

Even if you swap the entire crossmember in, it's a lot of work removing the factory rivets, and after all that labor you are still installing worn out parts as lolife stated. Buy conversion spindles specific to your year truck. All other parts can be sourced new at your local parts store at the counter very very easily. The only part I had a problem sourcing locally were "conversion" hoses that bolt to the calipers AND the existing hard lines. Ece offers them for $55 a pair plus shipping. After reading threads here on the board and cross referencing part numbers, I found autozone carries them on the shelf for $9.99 each. Part number is 88466. Banjo bolts are part number 13935, used to attach them at the caliper end.

Here is a pic for reference. Hoses also come with copper washers necessary to prevent leaks.

What about brake line going to the prop valve will mine bolt right up or will i need to get those as well?

I usually bend my own brake lines.

if you go with the 71 set up definatly get the steering linkage as well. youll need it and if you can get the brake lines grab those too if theyre in good shape, might as well add the brake booster and disk/drum prop valve as well. you will definatly need the prop valve

Where is the best place to buy conversion spindles? I was looking on summit but there's a number to pick from is one brand better than the rest? Summit says they have spindles for a 70 even though70's didn't have disk brakes I'm going in circles

Yes Summit is a good place to order from.
Call and talk to them.
I doubt anyone sells drum brake spindles, do the 70 spindles they list are the 63-70 conversion spindles.
The cheapest should be around $229/pair.
You have to choose stock height or drop spindles.

The other option is to call www.earlyclassic.com.
But expect to pay more.
You could hit up some of the board vendors also.
They will know exactly what you need.

I bought mine from summit, mcgaughy brand. I bought the spindles and the entire rotor kit. Worth it for me to have every part sent to my door. Literally took old stuff off and installed new. Pretty straight forward. I did replace all the ball joints and tie rod ends, but got all that from oreilly. The mcgaughy kit uses the original a arms and ball joints.

I know you guys swear by ECE but I have an extremely hard time paying the same price for disc brakes as I "paid"(traded $1,000 s10 for it) for my truck.

Anyone else installed this kit?

I am doing the same exact thing 70 C10 L6 250. I ordered a complete Power brake kit from Brother's and I should be starting the project within the next few weeks.
I thought... Let's start with all NEW parts instead of used to avoid worn out items that would need to be replaced during or after the install.

I will post info/challenges as it arises during the install.

Yes that is the kit I used. I didn't get drop spindles. I stuck with standard ride height. Those have better rotors too. Mine were not drilled and slotted.

Every thing depends on if you are lowering it, stock height, or raising it. Keep the 6 lug too. 5 lug is for girls.
