Serpentine belt issues. Need help.

Hey guys, in the process of converting my truck over to a 96 serpentine belt setup. The belt I installed seemed to be way too tight. Once it is on, the tensioner is swung in to the max and the belt runs on the tensioner pulley but also rests against the body of the tensioner. I am guessing that is too tight and the tensioner should swing back out enough to where the belt isn't touching the body of the tensioner, just the pulley. Any suggestions on belts to use that may be a little longer? The belt I tried is a drive rite 968K6

Re: Serpentine belt issues. Need help.

I'd pop it off abd head to the local parts store and have em measure it. O'reilly's for me. If the won't cuz they're too lazy i'd take my business somewhere else. Good luck!

I will give it a shot. Maybe I can get some help there. Do they sell belts on size as well?

What engine do you have, Big or Small Block? The tensioner will have marks where it should be running with the correct belt.

Re: Serpentine belt issues. Need help.

Any auto parts store should be able to sell you a size longer (or shorter) belt just off the part number of the old belt.
