Question Anyone built a front 14b?

I have a 67 SB and have a 14b for the rear. I have been looking for a D60 for the front but they are quite pricey around here, $1000 +/-. A 14b around here can be found for $100-$300. I have heard that you can convert a 14b to a steerable front axle. I would like to know if anyone has done this and if the cost involved is worth it. Are there any drawbacks to something like this, weight, ground clearance, parts…ect. I have seen an episode of Extreme 4X4 where they did this but don't recall costs or pros/cons. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Anyone built a front 14b?

Search over at Pirate4x4.com. There are some 14 bolt fronts as well as HO52 steering axles.

But it's not just about the ring gear. The 60 has massive brakes, knuckles, and 35 spline axle shafts. You will spend more money putting together the 14T steer axle by a long shot unless you are planning on replacing all of that stuff on the 60 as well with aftermarket parts.

Re: Anyone built a front 14b?

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like by the time I get a 60 and rebuild it, I would be better off. I guess the gold plating I was hoping for will have to wait
