1981 k10 value

Hello everyone, my son and I just went to look at a 1981 k10. We were wondering what the value of this truck would be in your part of the good old USA . the guy said it has a rebuilt 350 instead of the 305 and a 400 tranny that was rebuilt. Has the typical rust ( cab corners ,rockers and a couple of small spots here and there ) He also has another bed for it that has very minimum rust that will come with it. Thanks for your opinions

Re: 1981 k10 value

I wouldn't pay more than a 1000$, I would try and buy a mostly rust free truck from the southwest, they can be had for under 2000$. Does he have any receipts that the motor and trans was rebuilt? Almost every time I have looked at a classic car or truck over the years the motors are always "rebuilt" or they are out of a corvette that was recently "rebuilt".

Re: 1981 k10 value

Even a beater truck with a decent drive train and aluminum wheels should be worth $2k around here. A lot of guys around here are pretty good at cab corners and rockers on these trucks.

Re: 1981 k10 value

IMO there are sooooooooo many of these trucks out there that are rust free, longest running body style chevy ever produced. in arizona that truck would get scrapped. no more than a few hundred bucks. even at 1000, that interior better be mint, because thats the only value.. start shopping out of state if rust is a common issue.

Re: 1981 k10 value

I was looking on craigslist last week for Arizona trucks and wasn't seeing any at all for $2k. I was thinking everybody in AZ must think their trucks are like gold now.

This truck would be $400 to $500 tops around here.

Re: 1981 k10 value

Thanks guys, he had it for 2000 and drop it to 1500 pretty quick. If I can get him down to a 1000 I think it might be worth it. You don't see to many of these trucks around here anymore and I would have to agree with Cadillac al on the prices in New England area. The calcium cloride and salt ate these trucks up, so the one's that are left are fetching a good price. So if I can get it for a 1000 it would probably be worth it. Just have to swap out the bed and through on some rockers and cab corners and have some fun with it!

Re: 1981 k10 value

If you can repair rust, and have the time then it would be worth it. Also check the steering box area for cracks, the frames are known for breaking in that spot on this vintage.

Re: 1981 k10 value

X2 on buy a southwest desert truck. Try craigslist and call quickly when you see a good one. I saw a nice 76 stepside go for $1000 rust free. Shipping to your location will be the best investment you can make. Don't be discouraged by the higher price some on CL are asking. Asking prices are often less than selling prices.

If you want a nice truck, you can plan on replacing most everything on the truck - from the interior to the body and everything in between. So, why not start with a rust free truck. Otherwise, you will always have just a patched up rusty truck.

Try Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque, El Paso - even southern Kalifornia is worth a look.

If you do search Kalifornia, make sure you don't buy a truck from the beach, they can be rusty.
