Lowering 62 c10 front end

How can I lower the front 2" without upgrading to spindles?

Loosen the tortion bar bolts and it will come right down. Just need a 15/16 socket and your on your way.

The one drawback I found is the adjustment bolts become the lowest part of the truck. They may bottom out. Mine sit 4-5 inches off the ground and it's not really an issue. I do have bags in the rear if I need a little more clearance.

you can reindex the torsions so they arent the lowest part of the truck. make a paint mark where the torsions attach to the lca so you see where they were, then loosen them all the way, unbolt/pull them free of the lca, turn them "looser" a couple teeth, reinsert and bolt back together.

now when you turn them back in where they tuck up inside the frame, your truck will still be lower than before.

You need to have the front end raised for adjustment, releases some tension.

yes, the adjustment bolts are under the cab. if you're going to do this, please read up on the method and take the precautions. yes, it'll mess with the alignment, same as lowering springs or cut coils (for those of us with coil springs). it'll tilt the wheels in at the top, mine's been that way for years. I figure it helps me go around corners faster

Do you have a pic of the LCA end of the tortion bar? I would like to do this. I will be replacing the LCA bushing shafts in the next week or so and this would be a good time to fix it all.

I have a 1960 that Im currently working on and I was wondering the same thing. I cranked the torsion bar keys all the way down so it sat nice and low but then the adjuster bolts hung way to low and I dragged them on everything so I raised it back up...what your explaining here makes a little sense to me but Im not sure what you mean by turning them looser a few teeth...can you elaborate on this so I can try to "lower" my again? I would really appreciate it!

I havent found the picture I need of the splines on the front of the torsion bar, but if you mark them as they are, pull them out and turn them "up" a little, you will have to crank the adjuster tighter to get the same lowered stance as before, and it gets the adjusters off the ground. I did it all the time on imports.

Thats what I wanted to know too. On the rear of the bar its 6 sided, is the front the same or is it more like an axle spline?

I was under the impression that they are 6 sided.

"install front hex of torsion bar into rear of torsion bar socket on lower control arm...." (1960 Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual)

maybe the torsion bar socket has more sides

If its hex and not spline, I think you could move the rear torsion key (looks like a pork chop) one hex flat higher and tighten it up all the way, should keep the drop and move the adjuster off the ground.

Is it possible for Joedoh to maybe write up a thread? I have a 60 and 2 years ago I installed 2 1/2 CPP dropped spindles.. last year I installed my new drive train and one side sits about 1 1/2" lower... Almost finished my truck but I havent driven it any where except in my property...I played with the torsion bar adjustment and cant get it to sit even...and yes my torsion bar bolt sits about 4 inches from the floor... Can any one of you kind folks please chime in??

That may work also and you wont have to remove the bar from the LCA..
