I have seen a couple of guys have posted remarks about a growing number of junk yards called, Pull-a-Part. I have seen the prices on their website and they seem almost too good to be true. They had automatic transmissions for $ 43 bucks?? It appears on their website that this is a standard price for all their transmissions. Engines for $143?? I wouldn't mind a big block for under $150??

Can anyone comment on going to their local pull-a-part facility? I it looks like a mid west/southern locations. From what I can tell, it is the real deal!!

Cant say as I have ever been to one,closest one to me is probably down south in Louisville,unless there is one in Evansville...I prefer the local junkyards..

ours used to be real good and i made alot of money pullin parts/ about a year ago they changed and the price for a tilt went from $18 to now its close to $80// but ive gone to ones in other states and most are very reasonable still// usually there a dollar or two admission price and the have sheets with the prices of the parts no surprises // a $43 transmission aint all that cheap when you have to provide all the tools and all the labor to get it out of the car and hump it to your car

Great prices here...no guaranty on the parts or engines so it is a bit risky in that respect but still a great place for parts.

Here's the inside scoop on pull-a-part---best prices by far but you can also give the guys a couple of $$ and they will call you when a particular vehicle comes in. What happens is he who gives the most, gets the first call and you can bet things like am'fm, tilt's, tach's, etc are picked off by the buddies of the guys who work there. I've been to the one in Louisville several times and have yet to find anything of significance to buy for our trucks. What I have also found it that their "on line inventory" is not all that accurate. Last time I went, it showed like 3-4, 67-72 trucks. I found more like 10 but again, they were pretty well stripped of the better stuff. It is fun to show their pricing sheet to other yards and watch their face turn colors!! hehehehe

I love my pull a part, went there today, yes they are open 7 days a week, even saw that they are open on the 4th of july. I am gonna be pickin all week when I am home, bringin the camera junkyardin tomorrow. saw 4 of our trucks today.

Wow...a regional chain...

otherwise...you enter the yard..maybe pay a buck or two for admittance(Crazy Rays)...you pull the part.. you pay da' man and go home... that's close enough for me to be the same...

Elwoods does not have a set price list-but Crazy Ray's does.

The one I've been to around here will torch something out for $20 if you don't want to try to pull it yourself.

so if you want an engine you have to pull it yourself also? seems like it would be hard to get it out in a junk yard.

There website says that one is under construction in Indianapolis. It looks like it will be a fun place to visit once in awhile.

The U-pullits around here have a gantry w/ chainfall you can use to pull an engine.

i just went to the one here for the first time this morning. lots of newer cars, and 10 or so 73-86's, but nothing of value. Saw plenty of 350's and 305's, but no big blocks. also saw a good number of tilts in the 73+ but i didn't grab them since my son was sitting in the waiting room (didn't realize kids under 16 couldn't go in the yard).

I have this week off, and between movin and hunting the ARL's in the area for a dog, i'll probably only have time to stop by once or twice. i think if i go back, i'm gonna pull a few of those tilts.

Out here in the west they are called Pick-n-Pull, prices are very good and 6-8 weekends a year they have half price days. I got two complete TPI engines for under $200 on a half price day.

The deals are for guys who are like us.I'm sure they get some good running engines in but most people I know use them for core type stuff.Buy a 700R4 and use it as a core to have rebuilt or a 350 to build.It works out well since they are cheap you can buy one to build and have it ready before you tear down your truck.They are also a good place to find trim stuff for late models.I don't know how they are about cutting sheetmetal for a part(i.e. cutting out the fender parts to get Caddy taillights).

Ours back in Northern KY have big wheel barrows to use if ur bringin a tranny and ur tools to the front, NO TORCHES, you gotta sign a waiver and pay 2 bucks to get in.. Pretty AWESOME prices... and if its too big or you need the car lifted to pull something or to pull an engine, I have befriended the loader driver Allen and he comes out with the forklift with the big prongs on it and we pull whatever with a chain and he'll drop it in ur truck for ya... I LOVE PICK N PULLS, None to be had around my way in Jville tho
