Need advice/ assist please
I've been working on my 70 LWB with 350 SBC. I removed the broken ram horns and have gone with headers for now. My question/ issue is now I can't seem to get my alternator to on correctly. I know there was a bolt in the manifold. Is my option now to get different brackets? There was an issue with clearance before with my valve covers. What might be my best option to sort this out?
Thanks, Mitch |

Re: Need advice/ assist please
You sometimes can use an early header bracket or modify an early Impala type alternator bracket. These were bolted to the manifold but with little modification and a couple of spacers it can be used.

Re: Need advice/ assist please
I will get some pictures up later this evening. Mine is currently on the driver's side with what I assume is the stock bracket. The upper arm is connected to the front of the intake and the lower is connected to the front of the water pump. After I took out the exhaust manifold and replaced it with headers it there is a bolt hole on the lower that is no longer usable.

Re: Need advice/ assist please
First thing you need to figure out is do you have the long or short water pump setup, is the alt on the driver or passanger side? stock is a short water pump with the alt on the driver side, if its on the passanger side its a long water pump setup used from 73 and later. if you have the long W/P setup it means you have a replacement engine.

Re: Need advice/ assist please
Hi, I had tried every imaginable bracket set up over the years, none worked well with headers. So I found on line at Jegs, parts #555-50546, Jegs SBC Billet alt bracket at 62.99. It is just simply the best. Looks great while doing its job. Also try some Headman headers for our trucks. They fit perfectly, and I have a 4 spd. Ceramic coat is very pleasing to the eyes. I thank you, Mike

Re: Need advice/ assist please
A quick search of less than 2 minutes in the the advanced search option using the words "alternator header bracket" produced this thread.

Re: Need advice/ assist please
Thanks for all the pictures and info. I'm now on the hunt for a bracket that bolts to the head. I thought I had found one at a local parts yard but, it was not. I looked at some one summit but, would prefer a more stock looking bracket. I will search more locally and check out other places as well. Once again thanks fellas.
