Thats the same console that came in my 71 SWB, I have always been told that the consoles that had the slots were for the seatbelts to sit in, and were mostly in trucks. But CPNE would probably be able to say for sure.

Lightbulb

bowtie:
CUP HOLDER MODELS WERE USED FROM 73 ON UP.
SEAT BELT HOLDER MODELS WERE USED IN PRE-73 MODEL YEARS. THE CONSOLES IN BLAZERS & PICKUPS WERE THE SAME. RARE?????? I DON'T THINK SO LOL

Keep an eye on it though, since the 73& up crowd won't recognise it, it may go for cheap.

I think the guy is being honest.

I think the rule about cupholders 73 and up didn't necessarily apply to Blazers and Jimmys in 73 and 74. I know of at least two Blazers (one 73 and one 74) that have the seat belt slots in the console.

My guess is that in 73 GM wanted to use up some stock of these consoles, but didn't want them in their new model truck...so they threw them in the Blazers and Jimmys (who would care in these "less desireable" vehicles, right? lol.

CPNE where are you?

Well you learn something new everyday. Until I saw a 73 GMC brochure that clearly shows the 69-72 style console, I too would have argued 73-up = cupholders. Not anymore, check here then click on the 1973 and look for the truck brochure that shows a blue bucket seat interior.

Or click this for pic

It appears that the cupholder console appeared in 1977. I think that was the year the Gov't mandated that holding a beer between your legs while driving was hazardous and the auto industry responded with cupholders!

Here is a pic from Ebay, it's a 1974 Jimmy with 12,000 original miles. It appears to have the seat belt console also. I highly doubt it has been messed with.
