Meant to be?

As I was leaving for work today, my neighbor (Drives a very expensive Mercedes, and so does his wife) stopped me and asked about my 67 I'm tearing apart in my garage. He said he saw me doing body work by hand and cringed (hopefully because it is very labor intensive and not because I was screwing up really bad). Seems he trained about half the body shop workers here in El Paso on body work! He said he has worked on tons of older Chevy and GMC trucks and knows them inside and out. I never figured him for a mechanic. He said that if I ever need help or run into any issues I can knock on his door. I guess this project was meant to be!

Re: Meant to be?

Alright. Now you can get some pointers from an expert.

About 10 years ago my wife and I bought a house in an older neighborhood and my next door neighbor (now deceased) was a retired mechanic and drag strip racer from back in the 40's, 50's and 60's. I also, have some out of town property where a new neighbor moved in that's a retired body shop man. Told me he could paint my truck and give me a good deal when I'm ready for it. Great neighbors.

Hmmm, very cool.

My neighbors just look at my burb like it's an alien as I pull out of my drive...

Re: Meant to be?

I don't think my neighbors like my truck because it is ungodly loud, and I leave for work around 4:30 in the morning...

Re: Meant to be?

I have a mixture of neighbors.. Mostly good. The ones closest to me are awesome. Some of the nicest friendliest people you could ever meet.. There's one down the road though that calls my place "redneck central".. Also, recently another down the road neighbor decided it would be a good idea to get totally drunk and try to drive home.. He is now dubbed the "mailbox assassin" for obvious reasons.

Re: Meant to be?

My neighbors hate unrestored old cars/trucks of any kind and have repeatedly reminded me of the ban on working on cars at home pursuant to the CC&Rs. I'm sure they will snitch on me one of these days and I'll start getting nasty grams from the HOA.

Re: Meant to be?

I am glad I don't have any neighbors close, one of the advantages of living in the country. I normally have one of my project trucks in the drive-way by my garage.

I lived in cities in California for about 30 years and most of my neighbors were cool with me working on stuff in the drive-way but every once in a while someone would complain to the city.

Danny

Edit: I am lucky though that I have a brother that lives near that is a good mechanic and my son lives a few miles away and he is also a mechanic and body guy.
