Quick and dirty way to turn a stuck motor?

Need to turn a frozen (junk) 305 V6 so I can remove the transmission. Any ideas?? I have access to a torch and a sledgehammer..

Chevy, U decided to salvage any pieces parts off the block? the pan, and top half are needed by other folks on Jolly' site.

If she is really stuck, flip her over, pull the pan and loosen the mains that may do it.

It sounds like it is still in the truck. I suppose if you really didn't care about it, you could cut the crank in half with your torch near the rear main.

ifs a straight stick give it a tug and dump the clutch, or if theres a soft plug heater plug it in heat the block up good , fill the holes with some kind of penetrating oil and give it a while and give the starter a go , suprises a person sometimes

on automatics, pull the trans. off and leave the torque converter.
after the tranny is off an offset box wrench will fit past the flexplate for the converter bolts.
on standards take off the four transmission bolts at the bell housing, no need to spin the motor.

It's "kind of" still in the truck -- it's the drivetrain and chassis only, no body. This is the big block V6 (about 700 pounds) with a GMC Hydramatic trans behind it which is at least another couple hundred pounds. So not really something I can flip over. I've pulled off other automatics without turning the engine, but these ones don't separate without removing the converter bolts (and there about 30 of those). Pretty unique trans. I like the idea of cutting the crank, will see if I have access to do that.

You've tried removing the plugs and putting trans fluid/penetrating fluid/whatever in the cylinders and letting them soak, right?

I think it's past that kind of help but I'm going to pull the heads off and see what's happening.

Oh man …… its been years since I messed with a hydro can't remember if torque converter slides out of pump or if its locked in. if it slides out of pump just unbolt it and pull trans, then you can access tc bolts on flex plate. maybe someone else remembers 4 spd hydro's better?

If there are salvageable parts on that engine I know people on another forum who will be interested. I may be as well. Are you junking the whole thing?

I have half a dozen 305's for parts, let me know what you need. Also have a few running 305 and 351 engines.

Yep I know, unfortunately it doesn't work on these transmissions.. I just did another one a few weeks ago, had to turn the engine and unbolt everything to separate them. Not like pulling a Powerglide from one of these engines.

You have the hydramatic, that is super rare and you have the V-6 adaptor plate. Those alone are about 600.00

When they sit exposed, water get's in them and the bores rust,, then it's unlikely you'll have any luck without cutting the crank and/or burning the pistons free of the rods. If there is any mechanical damage in the bottom end, cutting the crank at the rear rod journal and removing the rear main may be your best bet. I would venture to guess there is going to be few salvageable pieces once your done.

if soaking the motor down free it up /pull heads take a hole saw and drill a hole in top of pistons w/ a hole saw say [not sure about the v-6 pistons sizes } not too big -just size it big enough to fit above the top of rod ! this will help shrink the piston ! also you could heat piston up w a torch & let it set about a 1/2 hour or so - hit pistons with a block of hardwood and big hammer ,-use a bar on flwheel teeth or a strap wrench of balancer i have unstuck several motors doing this PLUS you are only ruining the pistons /which are probably worn out ! good luck -and yes saving that hydro flywhhel is a good idea !!!!!

These engines used an adapter to hook autos to them. That adapter is rare and worth some money. Though not many enthusiasts prefer an auto over a manual for these engines, some do. Pulling the rear main will take some effort if it comes to it.....it is a rear main bearing block. It holds on one of the main bearings And the main seal. Will require some tapping with a small hammer to pull out....just went through this. haha And know that all mains on these are torqued to 130-140 foot pounds so have a long ratchet handy. Pull the heads and see how bad things are....and if they are pretty bad....pull the crank and take a large hammer and block of wood and hammer the pistons out the bottom.

Like others have said. Fill the holes with tranny fluid and let it soak for a day or two.
If that doesn't work then you can pull it apart and use a BFH....

Diesel fuel down the holes has worked for me!worth a try!!
