I live in a small town (about 17,000 people) and i was driving around this morning and started to see a few trucks like ours and so i took a mental tally of how many i had seen so far (most of these are new to the area) and when i got back to work i had counted 18 trucks from 67-72 year range... i couldn't believe it....

these things are comming out of the woodwork...

Actually ... I've noticed the same thing. And the crazy part is, they're all in a process of restoration - primered, engines out of them (on flatbeds) and stuff like that. Which, I mean, it's really cool and everything, but ... hehe

At least I have a stepside. Specificaly, I keep seeing 67-70 SWB fleetsides. I usually don't see 71-72 models much. I don't see long beds much either.

I also live in an area where the factory used to be (Atlanta; but I don't know if it's still open), so I'm not sure if this has something to do with it.

I liked our trucks being cool, I liked our trucks being popular, but I'm not sure if I like our trucks being in Vogue though.

Not to worry, most of the trucks I have seen being "restored" around here are a few nice pieces that will be completed. and alot of rustbuckets that would make for poor parts rigs.

A good portion of the latter will never make it back on the road.

I have also noticed alot of older Ferds getting makeovers as well.

It's always nice to have a little competition.

I think sometimes it is not that they are popping up is that now I have one and am into it, I notice them more. I think many have always been there, but I just wasn't paying attention. Down here there are alot, but most are still in the "Truck" or I work category now a ride category.

Lots of them around here, mostly work trucks, a few are in decent shape, a very few are in excellent shape.

I think the hobby is growing. More people out there fixing and restoring older projects. More events relating to the older trucks/cars. Good thing to get out and do.

Alot has to do with the fact that you can still buy a running driving 67-72 for a few grand to fix up. When was the last time you saw a 69 Camaro, Mach 1, or 70 'Cuda for that price that wasn't a clapped out hulk? Old vehicles are hot right now, and I think the cost factor helps people get into a nice truck (which is still great looking) much easier than trying to buy into a muscle car.

I See About 35 Or 40 Everyday That I Venture Out Of The Neighborhood. Alot Of Them Are Still In Use Everyday As Work Trucks.

I agree. the same thing would happen if I drove a Taurus.
althoug I have been keeping a running tally as well. today it reached 13 when I spotted a yellow '67 GMC with a white top.
obviously the hobby is gaining fast. just look at our member count growing daily. the thing that scares me is that these trucks may go the way of the '34 Fords or '55-57 Chevys.

Have you priced a 57 chevy lately??? I can only wish I could put a price tag on Screamin like that

That's possible, however most all of the shows I attend only have a very few trucks of anykind. Biggest number when there any are 56 Fords ( with Chevy engines of course

)At least that is SoCal ,maybe different in your part of the country.

There are a lot of trucks around here. Most of the ones that are within 5 miles of my house are LWB's. One is a 71' Cheyenne LWB. There is one swb stepper in the process of a resto. There are a few nice ones that show up at the local cruise nights but not to many that actually show thier trucks at judged shows. Only a handfull of Blazers, no Jimmy's and I have the Burb market cornered.

As far as the value of these trucks. I can't really see it going too much higher right now. Considering the cost & availability of restoration parts and what you can buy the truck for, it's about near peak. Now I'm not saying what will happen in 15-20 years. Who knows, we may see 45K on a restored BB SWB Cheyenne. I remember seeing in around 82 or 83 a nice driver 55 Chevy conv. with the orig 6cyl/pg for $1200 at a local gas station. I watched my dad pass up a 57' conv.w/ no motor/trans. because the wiring was out of the car and it had two softball sized holes in the 1/4's for $450.00...

I know since I got mine, I see them a lot more. There are 4 in my neighborhood alone. 2 long fleets, 1 c30 flatbed dually, and my shortstep. I definitly hardly see any shortsteps. Any yes, the ones I see are almost always work trucks, not nicely restored ones. Mine definitely falls into the work truck category.

mine & all the others I see fall into both parts of the "work truck" classification. either it is used for work or needs a lot of work.

Theres 6-8 cruiser,show, restored etc.around here. 4 that I know bein' done, very few work or beaters. It seems like when I tell em' about the board theres little intrest. Thats cool I'll keep it for myself!!! LOL!!
