Looking to replace my windshield and need some advice on were to get a good quality gasket. Also would like to add the chrome trim ring around the outside. Is this possible if the windshield I am using does not have the chrome currently?

Thanks guys

We cary both the new windsheild gaskets and new stainless trim. Yes it is possible to add the stainless trim to your windsheild, if you replace the gasket with one that accepts it. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

all the supplies you need are available from various manufactures and vendors. you just need a whindshield, the chrome trim, the correct rubber window gasket with the channel for the chrome and a whole lot of patients and dish soap! My experience with replacing windshields has been a mixed bag. if i were to use a new gasket, which you will if you want the chrome but currently don't have it, i would lay the gasket somewhere warm. maybe then you can avoid some of the headaches associated with replacing our style windshields.

good luck!

I looked on the website and cannot locate the ss trim but I do see the gasket price.

Also do you sell the glass or know somewhere that does

Thanks

I replaced my front window and gasket in spring and found that the after- market one did not fit correctly so I ended up getting one fromthe gm dealership for $ 100 more than the first one I tried.there are two styles one with the slot for the chrome ( deluxe ) and the all rubber one.

i just completed replacing a windshield that did not have the deluxe chrome with a new windshield, chrome, and rubber - the aftermarket rubber does not fit properly - the gm fits great - also i have two sets of front windshield chrome if interested (they are originals not reproduction stainless) Brent

windshield gasket

Brently

Little confused on what you have for sale? Is it just some windshield chrome and if so what kind of shape, pics, and how much.

I assume you just went to the dealer for the GM windshield gasket?? How much was that item??

Thanks for your help

I put one in my buddy's 71 last nite, used aftermarket rubber(he's cheap) with used chrome. Fits poorly, I think it will leak w/o sealant. GM weatherstrip all the way, I have installed several of these, the aftermarket(usually Precision) is more of a replacement,it works but just doesn't fit like GM. If you're gonna sell it, use aftermarket. Brian

I used a LMC gasket, and the fit is terrible. Especially inside along the top, where it has a 1/4 to 3/8 inch gap. Are GM ones still available at the dealer? Anybody have a part # for a '70 with molding?

Just a thought---try you local auto glass dealers---explain that this is NOT an insurance deal (they make mega profit on those). Have them get the rubber. You can buy the stainless from any of our great board supporting venders---Mothertruckers, Christians, GMC Paul, Wes, etc. BUT, you might be WAY ahead of the deal by having the local auto glass guy use his supplied rubber and his supplied Glass (their cost is around $50. and it probably comes from Mexico), and HIM doing the install as unless you've done this, it can be a real pain in the butt. With him doing it, he will guarantee it's not leaking which is a very common problem on these trucks. If he needs the rubber, he can get it also from one of our vendors.
Just a word of caution however, the cheepest price is not the best deal. I have had some terrible experience with rubber from LMC and some other vendors--where the rubber started dry rotting within a year!!
Now, it's important to realize that the delux window setup with the stainless is different depending on the year--so to is the delux windshield rubber. One has a deep grove and requires the deep stainless trim while the other has a shallow grove and yada, yada. So it's got to match to work right.
I you buy the material (Glass==$125.+, rubber = $40.+, stainless $95.new+ or used $30-50.+) the +++ are shipping---you get the package for somewhere around $250 to $350. then you get the opportunity to try and put it in without breaking the glass. Either way you would probably have to get the stainless yourself so that's a wash. I would opt for a professional installation with a guaranteed no-leak warranty if it could be had for less then $400.

Great info guys! I am planning on reusing my trim and have the correct gasket sitting on hand from Chevy Duty. Runnin scared. Think I'll shop around for an install. Anyway, How can I tell if the gasket I have is a "good" one?

Precision is one of the best out there. I do not know about the others, who's fits and whos do not. I sell precision and use presision and haven't had any problems. (including our Garden Truck project) 6600DURAMAX, I don't have the windsheil trim uploaded onto my website, but if you want to email me I will be happy to answer any questions you have. No more crack! I had an installer come to my house with the new glass and new gasket, re-used my trim-total $196.98,, He used the Precision rubber gasket and the PPG glass with the tint on top. Installed monday morning, rained on tuesday-no leaks.
