Replacing harmonic balancer and timing cover

I need a little advice. I want to replace the harmonic balancer and timing cover on my 350. The engine is from an 87-95 vehilce, with a roller cam. Are all timing covers the same? I'll be using the stock timing gears and chain. Any help would be appreciated. I think the old balancer is out of whack, as it appears to be rubbing on the old timing chain cover. The crank does not move forward or backwards, so I think it is the balancer.

I don't think they are all the same, you can order them online or at your local parts store for your specific year.
One thing to remember is to loosen the oil pan bolts Before you take the timing cover off and AFTERyou put the new cover on. It may not hurt to replace your timing gears\chain and oil pan gas ket at the same time. It may not need it but preventative maintenance is always good.

I agree. My belief is whenever you work on any part of a vehicle you may as well replace anything you can get to in that area while you're there. Unless its relatively new, if you have the timing cover off you should go ahead and drop $40 on a new timing chain.

I plan on changing the timing chain, but I'm having problems know which chain, cover, and gears are for my engine. Some web sites say their timing chain covers are for '58 through '99, others are very year specific. I'm not sure of what's different for the 87-95.

As for the poster. Use that thing with all the numbers on it and just call napa.... Tell them what you have and they will get you what you need..

One thing is you have to make sure the timing cover fits correctly to keep the cam where it should be.... Right billa???
