57 grill construction

I have been chasing down rattles on the truck. The grill seems to be flimsy and the cause of some of some squeaks and rattles. The P/O used rivits to connect all the grill pieces. So if someone with a 57 grill that has the correct nut and bolts could tell me if the grill seems solid or flimsy prone to rattles? Trying to determine if I should rebuild the grill with bolts thanks in advance!

57 Chev or GMC?
you could check the assembly manual to see what the grille was assembled with originally, rivets, screws or bolts.

Re: 57 grill construction

I'm pretty well positive that the grill was assembled with rivets at the factory but if it has been taken apart and put back together with pop rivets they may have used too small of diameter rivets letting the pieces move around.

Here’s a picture of my original grill. You can see the rivets.

Re: 57 grill construction

Thanks for the replies and the picture 57tailgater. Some of the rivets on mine appear to be original and some appear to be aluminum pop rivets . A closer look revealed missing mounting bolts at the top and inner fenders. Its much tighter now, one less rattle!
