Putting body on rotisserie questions!!!

I am getting ready to do just that and I have braced the two front door openings and braced the rear of the blazer. I used the existing holes as you can see in the pics as much as I could to save on the seemingly logistical nitemare of getting a portable welder and someone to weld, as I can't do welding myself. Does this lok braced well enough? I need opinions please from some who have done it or seen it done. I made my own rotisserie using parts from two 1,000 lb. engine stands and plan to put it on the rotisserie sometime next week!

what are your plans with the rotisserie? I suggest you buy a small wire feed welder and take aclass/teach yourself. In the door opening i would try to use the bottom hinge holes as well and triangulate up to where you have the angle iron. One bolt at the end is still going to allow any twisting to occur, jus tnot let the opening stretch. I think i would also consider some perpendicular diagonals to keep the b pillars in the stock location.

I will get pics when I get it completed and during the load up, then finished. Please tell me where the b-pilars are. I think I know, have heard the term but I am learning all of this as I go. As for learning to weld, I am going to do that soon but not soon enough to get this tub on the rotisserie. The tub is very good, only 56,000 miles, completely original and unmolested. Has some rust in outside rockers and in front floors but none in the real structural areas of the body. Look at my other posts for pics of frame finished and entire rig. Thanks!

"A" pillar is the pillar the doors are hung on.
"B" pillar in the one behind the seat where the door latch is.

Not coming from experience doing this, but my general engineering experiences...you will most likely want to have at least 2 bolts at each end of your support members to avoid a natural pivot point. If the member you are bracing with can pivot, the structure can fold or twist in a parallelogram.

Am I hearing this right? Bigdon has does not have welding expertise and is asking about pillar location, but has a homemade rotisserie that he is fixing to load his cherry jimmy on???

You heard right, I have to rely on buddies for welding stuff. Did some more bracing tonite, will try to implement the other suggestions recieved. Here are some more pics, what do you think?

Looks a little better but i think you still need to use at least two bolts to capture each end of those angle iron pieces, at least in the door area. Think of a pair of scissors.....with one bolt its a hinge....two bolts would make it more stable. If you cant weld why are you putting that tub on a rotisserie? Looks like it needs a little rust repair? Not trying to dog ya just dont get it yet.

Because the frame is done and I still need to media blast the body, underneath included. I don't want to ruin the finish job I did on the frame. So I was going to take the body only over to the body guy who is going to do the media blast then put back on frame to do the cutting and replacing rockers, etc. They just wanted me to bring it, media blaster, on a trailer and they would just tip it over and clean the undrneath, did not sound good to me, so I am building a very stout rotiserrie. Will deliver to media blast on rotis, then paint underneath, then put on frame for body work and paint and try to tape off best I can to keep the frame clean. At least that is what I am thinking. I do appreciate your in put and any comments are meant to cause me to think. Thanks so much!

I have added a couple of crossed diagonals as suggested to me across the body and here is the results. How do you think this will be? The going has been so slow....hopefully getting ready to take off!

What do you plan to blast it with? Got any pic of that rotisserie yet? I am going to do the same thing to mine very soon. This thread is very helpful. So how did you go about lifting body off frame?

I will get you pics as soon as I get it built, I modified two 1000 pound engine stands to build mine, I have just a couple of more details and I will start to mount the body on it. I currently have the body on a wooden frame I built for it to rset on while I finished the frame, which it is now done. I haven't figured out how I'm going to do it but it will probably involve some long 4X4's some saw horses and a few buddies! I saw your thread but thought I would wait till I saw how the rotiserrie worked. Nobody had one so I thought I could build my own, everybody wants one, so I may be able to sell it easily afterwards.

That looks awesome - very cleverly done - are those tires gonna be able to hold that thing up though? - and is it wide enough to flip the tub without the whole thing going over?

He is plenty wide and the weight of the tub is actually not that much like you would think. As far as the tub going over all of the way, probably will not but you could get it on its side to do what you need to on the bottom. Interesting take on it to say the least. I think it will work. It would make it easier if you cut the vertical shaft of the engine stands and make it adjustable in height like this.

Thanks. I am up early now worring about details, staring at the ceiling, you know the routine! Just going over how I am going to mount it to the body and such. The tires are rated at 300 pounds each so I think they will be fine. Does anyone have an estimate what the body tub weighs? 600 pounds? Anybody?

I am going to pick up a rotisserie that I saw at teh good guys show this last weekend. Very well made, I am sure alot of you have seen them he has tehyellow 69 vert camero spinning on it for his display. $1100 shipped and just steel would be about $500 plus rams, wheels, hardware and not to mention time.
