Truck Stolen, with broke column Repair or Replace?

I'm a newbie here and I'm in need of some help. My mother drives my late father's 87 Silverado Reg Cab 305 Automatic. Well, the truck has never been in that great of shape but the body's straight, interior is alright and heck ... it's just keeps on chuggin along.

Well the truck was stolen but they didn't get very far because the gas gage shows that it has a full tank of gas, and well it seems my mother enjoys living on the edge and keeps it at around a quarter tank ... LOL

Anyway they broke the column just above the turn signal switch. So that's where we have to use a screwdriver to start the truck. The ignition no longer works so I need to find out how I'm going to repair this.

I've called a couple of junk yards and they've told me $200 approx. for a steering column. I called another fella that said he might be able to fix it for $175.

What should I do? Keep looking for a column and replace it myself? Take it to someone to have it rebuilt?

I appreciate your help.

By the way, if you have a steering column to sell please let me know. The one currently on my 87 Silverado has tilt, cruise control, delay wipers, and is an automatic.

Thanks again.

Thanks a lot! That's going to be a great help.

So I'm guessing everybody things I should replace it rather than repair it ...

Call around your area. The last time I had a column busted it cost 75.00 to have it repaired....
