Timing spec.

Hey Guys,
I'm looking for the timing spec for a 1975 250 6cyl. I've been setting it to the 230 spec 4' BTDC, thinking they would be the same. Then I ran across the tune up specs for a 1973 250 that said 6' BTDC, but nothing was offered for a 1975.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Timing spec.

Well, I bumped it up to 6' and it seems to be running a lot better.

Re: Timing spec.

I usually start at 10*. If it pings on acceleration, I start dropping untll the ping stops. I rarely end up below 8*.

Usually more advance means a little better milage.

Re: Timing spec.

On my ol' 230, I was rather casual about timing. Pretty much like Fred T says. I had my dist clamp snug, but loose enough I could spin the dist anytime anywhere. And to my surprise, it never moved on its own (that's in 25+ years of service). So a tune up was to replace pts/cond/plugs, advance the timing a little.Start up and drive around, if it pinged then stop by the side of the road and retard a little, repeat until no more ping.

Re: Timing spec.

Sounds like a plan. I'll give it a try, and let you know where I end up.
Thanks
