Model Kits
I just bought a kit and didn't see where it belonged here, so starting this thread. Collectors wanting to show their stuff, built or in box, and builders can share their work. I've only been collecting for years, not building, but do have kits to build in the future.
I found this one and had to have it for it's uniqueness (no one else every offered it) as well as being vintage. Lindy usually offered stuff I wasn't interested in, but their quality was great. Check this thing out... Chevrolet!! I just wish it was 1/25 and not 1/32

Re: Model Kits
Nice .I think Lindberg used to make 1/64th scale cars I bought as a kid. I'd put aluminum wheels with rubber tires off of H/O cars on them to customize them. I have an AMT 1/25th scale I built back in the '90s to match my truck at the time. I bought another at a swap meet last year. I also have a '72 Blazer to be built still.

Re: Model Kits
Nice job! I did that Thunderbolt Blazer kit to look like the dark green Blazer I had. Lindenberg did do the 1/64th scale. They did a '72 with a camper, among other things. This one is 1/43rd...oh well. I was hoping for 1/25th so I could street rod it from other kits.

Re: Model Kits
I'm a model builder. I collect kits more nowadays, because I've learned to buy *now* because it may disappear.*
I'll start off with what I built. This is the AMT kit of the '50. AMT screwed up the instructions, shows the driveshaft backwards, the non CV joint is at the front. I put in a diorama. Title is Up A Creek. Another diorama, inspired by a Ken Ebberts painting, California Pit Stop. Same AMT kit parked in back, not in the painting, but the Texaco theme was perfect. *Can't get gas station parts now because the guy went out of business. I have been working on a '50 Chevy Canopy Express, started 2005. I had not been using Flickr for a few years, need to upload new pictures so I can post here.

Re: Model Kits
You built great models, Kurt. I really like the realistic looking patina. You nailed it. I've been collecting but will get into building before it's all over. I need to get some less valuable later issues. I bought the ones that came out around 1990 like 3757 built (and the red GMC Fenderside) but now those I feel are too old to tear into. I probably will build some og those, though, when I get back into it. I also want to build some phantom 67-72 promos... do OEM colors that were never done. There were two colors for each year and I have them all. I used to hate it when other kids would build their kits w/o using a stitch of paint. To me it wall about the painting as much as building. Now here I am wanting to use only the body color to paint everything but the chrome. But that's a promo!
One of my all time favorite kits from when I was young was the original AMT 3 in 1 '49 Ford Club Coupe. Yesterday I went to a swap meet and there one was with a box that looked fantastic. Talk about nostalgia! It has a built car still all together, which is as amazing. The unused decals are slipped into the perfect instructions, the unused chrome pieces are perfect, no fade, and still on the sproul. The rest of the parts in a zip-loc. Got it for $20

Re: Model Kits
That's what I call keeping kits in stock! I got rid of most kits that weren't 67-72 GM a while back. But not all!

Re: Model Kits
No I haven't. As I recall when I was young, all kits were molded in white. I think Monogram molded in colors back then, but I favored AMT, then Revell. I remember that Beer Wagon model was molded in yellow, which was the color of the model. Around 1970 when I dabbled back into models I remember there was a "molded in color" GTX kit that was blue with metallic in it. These days it's anything goes with color.
I need to get a picture of my 67-72 GM Truck model collection. The one I had is trapped on P-Bucket

Re: Model Kits
Still haven't built a Chevy pickup model. Have priorities, you know.
Entered 7 models in a regional IPMS contest recently, got 6 awards. The one that took the least amount of time got 2, the Dodge Stealth Indy Beater, done for the Model Car Magazine forum, Lee Iacocca Memorial build; class was 'factory stock' that was split into newer years. The VW Beetle was my parents car, done from a photo, back-dated from 1966 to 1960 and scratch-built the skis and cargo, class was 'factory stock' split into older years. The Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar is based on the Tamyia 959, with a resin transkit that came from Russia, it's weathered like it just finished the rally; the class was 'closed circuit competition' with Formula 1 and other paved circuit race cars. The Ferrari 275P was kitbashed with a Ferrari 360 Modena, call it the Mongrel, the ultimate in sacrilege and blasphemy; class was 'custom'. The Porsche 904 was kitbashed with the ill-fated Porsche March Indy race car, call it Porndy; class was 'straight line competition' competed against drag cars, the Big Bend Open Road Race is 188 miles of straights. The last two are 1964 vintage Monogram kits. I have a collection of kits, they were meant to be built, you know?

Re: Model Kits
Nice foreign builds...the weathered 'Stealth' is sweet....
The 49 Fords were predominately molded in gray, with black coming in second...in original issues...later in a 'Casino Cream' which are rare...then the latest reissues were white....This yellow one is a Tijuana taxi issue..... |

Re: Model Kits
Now I remember grey and tan moldings, too. I still have parts boxes where I recall sprags in tan. But you remind me there were grey moldings as well. I think I recall all the "current year" models being white... in the '60s!

Re: Model Kits
I've got some kits that I had since I was 14-16 years old. I can't believe the prices of the kits that I HAD!!! Couple hundreds bucks!!! But I'm getting more n more. There is a small show this weekend that can't wait to go to. Usually there are some tough ones to find. I'm looking for the Revell 6 car hauler. Apparently it's tough kit to find. Found one off the Letgo app, not far from me, only $40 I think. Also looking for the Ford Louisville kit to build a crew cab Kodiak that I picked up couple years ago. But where does everyone get tires/wheels from?? Seems the trend is like the real world, gawdy ugly ass wheels with rubber bands for tires. I've found a couple sites, but don't give very good descriptions. One place ordered some "big" offroad tires, the tires in stock kits were bigger, wtf. I've checked bout every link below, gonna order some and see what they are.

That show is at a legion. Went there couple weekends ago. I’ve been finding a lot on line, but now need to get some built. Biggest issue is finding paint....

Re: Model Kits
Not sure how many MPC kits I have, couple newer ones. But I have the Nirvana and A-team kit, the Nirvana is $100, not sure on the A-team. Found one in the box for $45, just gotta find time to get it, hour n half away. Anymore I get them to build, not to collect. I've never really been a collector. Tho I did by 3 Revell 6 car haulers, can't find any of them for less than $100, got all three for $150. But heard they are re-releasing it in a couple months....Fireball has some cool stuff!!
