gauge cluster
How do you remove the stock gauge cluster out of a '65. Im removed all of the surrounding screws from the bezel and removed the light switch, ignition, etc., but I am still only able to get one side to pull out. I have completed all of the new wiring except for the gauges and I find it would be easier if I just removed them.
Thanks |

Re: gauge cluster
I removed the speedo cable and the oil line. Ive felt up around the cluster behind the dash and I cant seem to find anything holding them in. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I supposed I could just splice the stock harness with the clip but im not sure which wires on the rebel harness correspond to the stock harness even with the labels.

Re: gauge cluster
I had to drop my steering column down a bit. I just loosened the bolts and it gave me room. Mine pulled from the bottom first.

Re: gauge cluster
If you have a manual choke, you need to reach up behind the cluster and undo the nut holding it to the dash. I always take off the headlight switch, but i don't know if it's required to remove the dash though. If you do, there's a button on the side of the switch that you push in as you pull the knob out.

The cigarette lighter will hang up, as well.

Re: gauge cluster
Byronic, you are correct. I had to lower my steering column to get the guage cluster out. I replaced the face/glass. Had to lower it to get it back in.
