Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10

Hi,
I'm Mike, Gearhead, musclecar enthusiast, who drag races his 98 Camaro SS every other weekend or so... but enough about me...

Here is a couple pictures of my just bought 1968 C10 Long Bed (wooden floor) pickup. Been sitting in a coworkers garage for the last 15 years... So it was loaded on a flatbed and brought to my local garage to go over everything, freshen all fluids, gas tank flushed, complete tune-up, brakes checked and good general going over to get her road ready once again in the next week or two.

Paint is a repaint done by the original owner back in the early 80's. has had a dual exhaust added by previous owner, and now shows 118k miles being racked up on the 327-4bbl, Auto, 12-bolt.

Interior will need some TLC, new seat cover, dash pad, rubber floor mat...

Body appear solid, with minor rock chips along fender edges/bottoms showing a tiny bit of surface rust. Solid truck all around.

I prefer the sleeper look, so don't take offense If I say "No" to adding 20's, or lowering it 5" or adding chrome... Do plan for a "standard" rear bumper to drop off the big azz step bumper.

Open to comments, ideas, watch-out-fors, etc...

Mike

Those step bumpers kinda come in handy ya know... If you were closer, I'd gladly pay a handsome sum for it, as it appears to be an original step bumper.
Welcome to the site - great lookin truck btw.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10

Someone correct me if i am wrong, but the mirrors look to be West Coast Jr's. Check your SPID to see if they are listed. They look to be in good shape so you should have no problem selling those either. Do a search in the classified section for step bumpers(& mirrors) to get an idea on pricing.

Not sure to be honest. I know I'd pay $100 for it if I were closer.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10

Cool truck! Reminds me a lot of mine when I first got it. It appears to be 505 dark green. What's the code on your SPID? Usually '68 and up had the same color paint interior and exterior. And yeah, those mirrors are actually pretty popular! Personally, I'd hang onto those. I've been casually looking for a set myself.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10

Truck looks solid, love the longbeds. I'd say do what you're doing to get it road worthy and safe and drive it. Check out the hidden spots for rust. If you're going to lose that rear bumper and not be towing, maybe get the smaller side mirrors. It's yours to make how you want.

Welcome to the board. I'll echo what Jocko said, if you remove that bumper you should not have problem selling. Good luck with the truck.

Welcome aboard! Like the green. Does it have the white grill and bumper? Are the mirrors painted or chrome?

Thanks, nice group of folks already saying "Hello". And Hi to all of you!

Got a pix of the front end, but seems I've hit a limit on posting pix to this thread?
Bumpers, steel wheels & grill surround and mirrors appear to be a silver, not sure of its paint name for the color, heard argent silver for that 5 star _OPAR brand...

Not sure if that is the factory color green, or a different color, the interior is a lighter more silverfish green color. Green seat, dash pad, door panels, seat, with black rubber floor mat. Stock AM factory radio still untouched. A bit of a time capsule.

Yes, rear step bumper and the trailer/tow mirrors will be gone come factory repaint time.

I'm completely on board with your thoughts on future work done to this gem!!!

If you ever need to work on the carb, get a kit and parts from cliffshighperformance.com. He can sell you everything you need, and recalibrate the Q-Jet to better run on todays gas, AND his parts are ethanol resistant.

Of course disc brakes are a great addition. I doubt that you can retain the stock wheels, even if you get one of the 6 lug setups's.

Can't believe you found such a solid pickup in your part of the country!!!

Carry on brother!!!

Can anyone elaborate on the picture limit!!!

Yeah, was thinking the guy I bought it off of owned it for 20+ years, and he got it from the original owner who he believe kept it in a garage as well.

Guys, this is not a for sale thread and he can't sell parts on here unless he becomes a premium member (name is Blue). Any more offers to buy or sell parts will get his thread locked. I'm sure you don't want to see that happen......

Thanks,

Sorry, no intention of selling anything. Should have read forum rules in more depth, and with more sleep first. Was more trying to learn value of things... Does showing what I paid for my truck cross any lines?
Not being a smart-rump, just learning... And a Lot to learn about these classy trucks! And a wealth of knowledge on here to learn from!

Thanks Mike. Sometimes more experienced members get a little overzealous when they see a nice original part that they can use. No problem mentioning what you paid for your truck at all.

Yes, there are a lot of experienced builders on here that are more than willing to share their knowledge.....

Ok, thanks!

I think I got a pretty fair deal. Paid $7,500 for the truck. Came with wood bed rail sideboards and spare rims/tires, new door seals, manuals, etc...
So... the big question. How did I do? Fair deal, Great Deal, Robbed Me, Steal of a deal...?

Yup, my Dad told me a long long time ago... "If it ain't got an 8' bed, it ain't a real working truck". He was a carpenter, and then ran his own Concrete foundation business, He was a GMC man, and told me it was about time I bought a real truck! (Just sold off my 2012 F150 4x4 with 8' Bed!)
