Wiw???? 6.2

I am debating to sell the 6.2 out of my 84 chevy 4x4.. I want to sell it complete minus a/c compressor, alt, etc. Will include torque convertor as well as a recently rebuilt starter that I paid $100 bux to have done. The flywheel is stripped and wont spin over long enough to start.. Truck was running fine before the flywheel went... I am curious as what to ask for the motor??? I have no idea...

Re: Wiw???? 6.2

First off, that is an 82 engine, not an 84. From 83 up all 6.2L were painted black.

That said, those engines are worth a pretty penny around here, particularly the red blocks.

I managed to score a good one for 600 bucks, but most go in the $1000+ range around here.

As far as the starter issue goes, check your starter's mounting points. These engines are famous for breaking the outermost starter mounting lug off the block which would allow the starter to move enough to disengage the flywheel.

Re: Wiw???? 6.2

The reason it wore the flywheel out was the brace on the starter was unbolted and caused it to twist and lose contact with the teeth.. As far as I know....thats the original engine in this truck......and its a 84..

Re: Wiw???? 6.2

Anyone else have any info on this motor... I realize that you can't hear this one run so that would decrease its value.. Atleast it would to me if i was buying.. I just don't want to rip anyone off..

Re: Wiw???? 6.2

Must be a factory fluke, had a spare red block kickin' around so they popped it in

I'd personally pop in a new starter and get the brace installed, then see if it will start

Re: Wiw???? 6.2

Well one of these 6.2s is on its way to China today.. Father in law scrapped his 83 Burb 4x4.. If we could get $1000 from the engine it would already be gone.

Re: Wiw???? 6.2

i just sold one of the red blocks for scrap.

I am looking for a running 6.2 and i have found them around here from as little as $100 running. You can get a low mileage military motor around here for $400.

I am looking into buying some hummer take outs.

Re: Wiw???? 6.2

I suppose the biggest thing to consider is how plentiful these engines are in your area. There are only one or two for sale at most at any given time around here, and they are reasonably desirable at that.
