LsX sm465 2wd with factory ls parts 1967 C30
I have an all aluminum 5.3 short crank out of an 2005 putting in my 67 c30
1986 hydraulic 10 spline sm465 external slave. Trans Trying to do it budget friendly from rockauto Avoiding using a AA kit if possible Avoiding the billet flywheel sbc clutch with mods Looked all over the internet no straight answer if the LSX clutch from truck nv4500 worked being 10 spline with same Input shaft lengrh. .590 tip. As the nv4500 Parts list To have 100 percent clutch engagement with factory parts. 2006 2500hd 6.0 -nfw1050 flywheel .400 thicker -starter -flywheel bolts -pressure plate bolts -LUK HD LSx clutch kit -ls7 bushing or maybe use the pilot bearing that comes with the ls clutch? I know both the 1986 sm465 and nv4500 from an 06 chev is 1 1/8 x10 spline Questions I have Is the bellhousing long enough on the sm465 to fit the LS clutch(not sure on the Finger depth and clutch width) ? OR doesnt matter... Can I keep my external slave and make it adjustable from Novak OR Can I swap from hydraulic external slave to hydraulic throwout bearing from the 06 as well with A 3/4 bore master setup from wilwood?. Anyone tried this setup? - |

when I did my swap I considered keeping my sm465, after searching for parts and knowledge I gave in and went NV4500..on it I tried to piece together a factory parts swap ...I couldn't find all the right stuff to do it...gave in and went AA....its costly, but I don't regret it ..have done 2 LS/NV4500 swaps now...both with AA

Re: LsX sm465 2wd with factory ls parts 1967 C30
I'd suggest buying a complete rotating assembly for a 2005 2500 truck with a 6.0 engine. This will include the flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate, and pilot bearing.
I briefly mocked up this setup with a hydraulic sm465 bell, and everything cleared fine. The reason for the mockup, was to see if any factory manifolds would clear the sm465 slave. The Silverado manifold will clear if you turn the slave upside down and remove the heat shield. The TBSS and 2010 Camaro manifold don't come close to clearing. The F-body manifold clears easily, but is a very restrictive manifold. I'd suggest using headers instead. As far as I can tell, the ls7 pilot bearing is the same as the 6.0/nv4500 pilot bearing. At some point I compared a LS engine with a nv4500 flywheel beside a sbc with a sm465 flywheel. The LS engine moved the friction surface 1/8" closer to the block. I neglected to measure the finger height of the two engines side by side. I could, and should, still do this, assuming I can still find all the correct parts for my sm465 clutch pack. You may need to use an extended throwout bearing, if the clutch fingers are in a different place compared to the sm465 clutch.

Yes I been looking into the novak adjustable throwout bearing as it might allow the right distance

From my research over this several times is the aftermarket Ls Old school style flywheel is needed then you can use any clutch kit that fits your arrangement
I have seen a few threads where guys use the Ls Flywheel with 80s clutch pack the issue there is it only has 80 % contact face to the clutch here is novaks page showing clutch face differences https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/gm-crank-spacing |
