Re: My 1st 66 c-10 project....

A week after I got the truck she decided to get water in the oil and had to tear the engine apart to get the heads rebuilt and new head gaskets in but since i had it all off I decided to add new cam and lifters..

This is the first time I had everything back together and she decided she still wanted water in the oil due to my gasket not sitting right and using old head bolts ...i got a bit frustrated at this point .

And the final time I put the engine back together with new Head bolts. hopefully engine work is done for good...

But now the real problem starts RUST both sides and rocker panels and also the front lip of the cab under the gutter and in front the windshield had a few holes..

Re: My 1st 66 c-10 project....

So Once I reached the rust issue I didnt think much of it but since i dont have a garage or a shop to work on it that became a challenge i started looking for parts to fix it and getting prices from different places but since Im on a buget i thought about getting the bodywork done fist and then worry about the interior rust. till the day I found this beatifull BBW cab on craigslist well in reality I went over to look at this truck cause i needed hood hinges and a seat but i scored a cab..

there was a little bit of rust on the rockers and some nasty holes on the side someone cut to install speakers but nothing as bad as my original cab.
The other good news was that the owner of this cab was a Very good friend of my ex boss and he has a shop that their speciality is working on this old cars and trucks so he gave me a good deal on the cab and all the repairs and even on the bodywork for my whole truck.

Re: My 1st 66 c-10 project....

Not only did he gave me a good deal on the body work he also lets me work on the truck while they are doing the bodywork so a removed my old cab, front clip and bed and painted the frame and also cleaned the bottom of the bed and had them spray it with bed liner and also paint my firewall.

I even had some time to restore my dash everything worked before i hope it works again.

Now the fun part will be the wiring... the new cab came with the deluxe heater and the old one only had the single knob ..and apparently i lost the heater harness cause its not attached to the dash harness ..

Nice find on the BBW cab, interior is looking good, I personally liked the simplicity of the single heater control knob, Made a delete plate and mounted in the center, just my 2 cents ...Carry on.

Thanks and yeah I might just leave the deluxe control mounted and just hide the single knob control under the dash cause the plate won't be painted to match my dash.

Bring it as a project man. If it runs and drives even if your in the middle of body work. Heck I brought mine there when it was an ugly flatbed with dents all over it. People loved it. I guess they think it's nice to see one not all shinny and chromed out.

found a really nice shop across the street from my house and got the C-notch done this week its almost done and this is how low it sits im running 235-75R15 the owner of the shop thinks my tires are big and mentioned that I should get new smaller tires to get this think lower since it already hits the inner fender and the rear tubs .
Im wondering what size to use in the near future?

I think Im going to move forward a little more then stop and enjoy the truck for a few months till Im ready to paint it and make a final decision on the paint (Matte or shiny)... its been a long 10 months ...

Re: My 1st 66 c-10 project....

So finally after few months of no updates I finally have time to upload some pictures and updates on these crazy last few months.
Finally I got my hands on a set of this transport wheels not easy to find around here but got em ..
Name: 20151021_121349.jpg
Views: 1201
Size: 37.5 KB
Here is once I completed the installation I had to use spacers in the back because of the hub being too big for the wheel the front was good because of the disk conversion.
this is how the truck sat all the way deflated and the doubt about the notch started to grow. at first I just thought it looked funny and too narrow but when I did this it started hitting the front part of the notch so this would of been the lowest i could go when in reality I payed for a notch to try to lay frame or get as low as I could with stock crossmember...

Well this is where disaster hit..some of the welds in the bag mounts broke and I asked the so called "shop" to fix it and till this day he hasn't done anything or even answered my calls..
Well thank God I have the help of good ppl who even thought they offered to do the notch the first time and I said I had a better "Deal" they dint refuse to help and figure out a way to make this work. I had my doubts about it and so did my buddy after he started tearing this apart I almost started to look for a new frame to start from scratch but he is a great fabricator and found a way to make it work.

He ended up only reusing the rear part of that existing piece of garbage and extending it forward, He went through all the welds and fixed em and also re mounted my bag mouts..

Size: 37.9 KB
So here is the final product once I layed a coat of POR on it. I think it looks great especially for something we thought was going to be unfixable.

Re: My 1st 66 c-10 project....

Since we were already working on getting the truck as low as it could go we decided to work on the front suspension as well.

While we had the air ride out I went ahead and replaced all those half-fast 1/2 inch lines and valves for 3/8 lines and an accuair VU4 unit while keeping the same AVS controller. I picked this up from a forum dealer pro performance was a great help.

If you guys check the old pictures all my tanks and compressors were under the rear part of the bed where the relocation tank was supposed to go so we moved them to the side of the frame I like how they look and they are out of the way.

Re: My 1st 66 c-10 project....

Once I had the seat out to mount the accuar valve I decided to install some sound deadner in the cab covered the back and all the floor hope this helps reducing exterior sound..

well now it was time to replace that old motor since it started smoking blue even after I changed the head and went through all that.. I found a good friend that had what it looks to be a crate motor that was barely used before the PO wanted a big block in his car everything inside the oil pan looked new and my friend went throught it and put all new gaskets and seals so it was just a matter of time before I pulled the old one out and got the new one in.

Re: My 1st 66 c-10 project....

And here it is in its new house it started with no problem and seems to be a nice heathy motor. I got the exhaust done last week and picked it up from the alignment shop yesterday and drove it for the fist time for about 6 miles no overheating, good oil pressure but almost run out of gas lol.
Now I gotta figure out those nice Porterbuilt hinges so I can put the hood on and drive it ..
