Patch Panel help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I rececently bought a 69 short wide. It is in fairly good shape except for rust in all the common places. I don't have a clue were to start replacing the rocker panels and floor boards. I was wondering if anyone knows a good book to help out or video, or maybe some advice. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Member Efab man has done a couple of videos on this.I don't know if they are still available.I think the general concensus was that they had great info and were a good starting point.Hopefully someone knows and can post a link or will post more sources.

With rusty cab issues I always start with the Floor supports, then floors, then kick panels, then door pillars, then backplates (if using those patch panels that need them), then cab corners and finaly rockers. or just put in a new floor like I did! then kickpanels, pillars, cab corners and rockers...

check the FAQ section, rokcrln has some "rocker panel 101" threads to get you started...

Thanks for the help, but I think it might be worse than I originally though. I took some pics. I don't know what parts I need, or if it is even worth trying to fix. Should I be looking for a different cab? If you have any suggestions please let me know. Name: 054.jpg

There are outer patches ($50-$60 ea.) that run from front to back but since you're in Texas it might be easier/cheaper for you to find a new cab... If I had that cab in PA then I would fix it.. heck I just put an entire new floor in mine though...

Naah, mine were way worse on my '72...the rockers were completly gone. All the parts are available for the bottom of our cabs. The real trouble is if the roof is bad. Inspect the drip rail, around the windshield inside & out. Look for rust thru or bubbling on the inside which means it's comming thru any min. Also, look at the firewall for the same damage. If you roof is too far gone, then yes another cab may be in order.

you have a pretty easy job compared to alot of the trucks in here,i bought mine with speaker covers over the kickpanels:S when i got home i found out why he just gave me the speakers and panels,it was rusted from the floor to the windshield about an inch wide from leaves caught in the vent.i do sheetmetal work for a living so i got lucky plus he told me it had a 350 in it and i have found since it has a 400 so im plenty happy
