Sat pics (11-15) Roaming around Rome.

Couple shots from my last trip through Rome Georgia.

If you look over the hood next to the mirror, you can almost see...

...the clock tower.

For some reaon I just liked the look of this lot and wall...

...and the building that it was in front of.

Remember, Always keep the sun behind you class!

Re: Sat pics (11-15) Roaming around Rome.

Couple more.

I'd been trying to find some time to get a shot with these towers in the background for a while...looks like I need to try it again in some better light.

The 54 progress has been a bit slow this week as well. I've been fighting a bit of a cold that has put me on my tail. When you're dragging it's kind of hard to go put the time in after a day on the money making job.

C notch is ready for action.

The rearend is ready to go with new shoes and wheel cylinders and a couple touches of paint.

Shifter was mounted for the 3rd (and hopefully final) time.

I hope you guys like the pics as much as I enjoy bringing em to ya!

Thanks!

Re: Sat pics (11-15) Roaming around Rome.

The shifter has kinda been a saga all to itself. It was suggested by the shop that I've been dealing with on the west coast that I use a tail shaft mounted shifter. They told me it's what they run in most of the cars like this that they build. We get the shifter in and everything looks good to go until we start doing the math. 4ft 11in wife + bench seat = the shifter isn't going to clear. Anyone else who drives with the seat all the way back would probably have been fine. I called Gennie shifter to see what they would suggest and they told me I definitly needed the mid-mount bracketry. All I had to send back was my mounting brackets and linkage and they had the correct parts on the way. Well, when the new brackets come in we remounted the shifter. The first thing we realized was that the shift arm now touches the mounting brackets and doesn't allow us to move the shifter..... Back on the phone we go and come to the conclusion that they failed to include a replacement shifter arm for the conversion. So a few days later the replacement arm comes in. We pulled the shifter back out to install it and repositioned the shifter all the way forward in the brackets. Now everything seems to be working as it should and we've got it mounted where we want it as well.

First location on tailshaft.

2nd mounting. You can see that the shifter is still leaning towards the front of the car at the bottom. Better location than the first mount but still not what we wanted.

3rd (and hopefully last) location. Now the shifter comes straight up from the floor and sweeps back just below the dash. This is the look we were shooting for.

Re: Sat pics (11-15) Roaming around Rome.

Tim, I was already in Rome for another reason, but yes I did drive to Rome and back. It only takes about an hour to get there from here. I'm not real sure what those buildings are/were. Some of them were obviously still in use and others appeared empty.

I did start a thread over on the HAMB but I kinda just let it die out. I got some positive feedback, but on the flipside I had a couple guys harping on us about a bad weld. Yeah, we knew it didn't look to hot but they just kept on and on about it. I wasn't going to argue with em about it so I just let it go. These same people had nothing good to say about other welds that were obviously good. I've got better things to do than to argue with people on the internet. One thing I'll never be accused of is saying something to someone on the net that I wouldn't say in person. The HAMB is a valuable resource but it can be a rough room.

Re: Sat pics (11-15) Roaming around Rome.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This board is full of the most friendly and helpful people that I've associated with through the net. So many other boards are full of people that are just looking for a fight. One of the things that I'm glad is few and far between here is the "USE THE SEARCH!" replies. So many boards have members that act like once a topic has been discussed, it's dead and should never be brought up again. How else will new info be spread if we don't bring things back up again from time to time? And it's not just the one person shouting "USE THE SEARCH!" it's his dozen or so buddies typing it in immediately after him. They're like bullies in the schoolyard jumping on the new kid. Don't get me wrong, I REALLY like the HAMB. I do feel it could benefit from some subforums, but it's not my site. For the most part I haven't had any problems there, but I have seen some behavior that I didn't really care for...but again it's not my site. This is the first message board that I have ever joined and to this day it is still the best I've found! It's impossible to say just how much the info and support I have received from the members here.

Anyway, enough of that. Here's a couple edits for you guys! Thanks again!

Love the pics as usual, but the crooked downspout was really distracting to me.
