Another rear fuel tank option

I know some will frown on this but my new truck has a plastic tank so I though why cant this project have one. This is a Summit fuel cell that is made to be hung by straps. I will need to move the fill hole off to the side and blank off the original one. I used 1" square to hold the top and next I will bend up some straps for the bottom. Total cost with the sender and all mounting willl be less than $200.

That first pic is all fuzzy like everything was saturday night. I plan to 90 straight up tight to the tank and jump into the frame rail channel.

What kind of floor are you gonna have in your bed? I saw one where the guy mounted the tank like you have then made a hinged board that he could pull up to fill the tank. It was pretty neat.

That was my plan but the fill hole will be under a crossmember So I will move it to the side.

Friday I just started wirking on mounting a fule cell just like that, except my cell is a 16 gal. I had to move the rear cross member back 1 1/4 inches to make room. Is your filled with safety foam? Do you think the sump being turned toward the front might cause problems when your tank gets a little low and you step on the throttle? Just something to consider.

Good point. It is just sitting there right now maybe I should flip it around. I was hiding the fuel lines the way I had it. Yes it is foam filled.

I was thinking of doing the same. And yes you should flip the cell around because of the sump. I know it sucks but you don't want to starve the engine when your on it. Maybe you can fab up some sort of cover to hide the lines.

I was also thinking when i do this is to make up a couple of extra braces to support the cell. 16 gallons of fuel is heavy. Then again it might be over board.

an 87 blazer 25 gallon efi metal tank $106, 87 blazer sending unit $75, house trailor straps from your local lowes or home depot. Cut out braces mock up tank weld n 2 braces at top of frame so top of tank rest against it. Have to move tracking bar to front of axle and replace with adjustable or make your own. Filler neck comes out side of bed in marker light. Use door from s10 pickup not sure what year and trim to size of marker. tank full of gas will lower rear about 1 1/2".

Projects looking good. I'm anxious to see how you run the fuel filler to the side of the bed, thats what I'm hopeing to start soon.

I would support the bottom so that it doesn't sag over time. You could also lean the tank down in the front to prevent the fuel sloshing issue. Although, when your low on gas it's not a good time to step on it anyway..... I don't think it's an issue...

I thought about that tank but don't want to have to modify the opening, I have a wood floor so the filler cant be in the center either
