Gas Tank

I am thinking about this gas tank for the trucks. Seems to be a solution for not being able to pay over $400 for an aluminum tank. Seems to be the perfect size also.. https://www.streetrodhq.com/detail/1...Bed_Mount.html

Re: Gas Tank

John I used one from Bob Drake for `49 to `52 chevy, tanks with sender delivered for $170. You can also get it at Tanks Inc, both are 18 gallon, the one from Drake has a drain fitting in the bottom.

Re: Gas Tank

I think Classic Parts and LMC sell rear mount frame tanks. Believe they are 20 gallon tanks.

Re: Gas Tank

John several reasons I went with the tank I did was to maximum the size without dropping below the bumper line, plus its already setup for F.I. if I decide so later on, drain plug, and a smaller filler tube 1 3/8 vs 2 inch which allow me to run it thru the frame as opposed to over it and does not interfer with the bed sills, it all sits level with the top of the frame rails....pic below at 20 ft back 10 inches off the ground.

I have the 20 gal tank in my blue truck and it is just to big, or I should say to tall. I have to cut the cross sills really thin. They just don't work properly with our trucks. I might go with the 49 to 52 tank but still not sure.

Re: Gas Tank

WE actually cut one rear bed crossmember off, added a 1" piece of channel to maintain the proper length, then added 2 support brackets whick bolted to the frame and then supported the cut bed crossmember. No structural problems to date. (14,000 miles) here is a link to the build and the mods, just click on the right hand arrow to keep advancing the pictures for all the mods we did to make it work.
