Your local State Troopers or DMV will have the answers.

Re: Las Vegas frame swap regulations

Not so difficult. the vin is on the cab and on the driver side front top of the frame just a bit back from the steering box.

simply put/bolt your cab on that frame. few if any will look further thn the vin onthe cab if your paperwork is all in order.

Unless one of them are stolen I would just go ahead and make the swap and move on.
Yes the best proper legal way is to go through DMV but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Sometimes it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. Usually they check the cab vin and want to see those numbers in one more location. The glove box SPID works in AZ. Usually every state is different though. Soooooooo,
Let your conscience be your guide.

Re: Las Vegas frame swap regulations

My truck was titled in AZ when I purchased it. The first thing I did was trailer it to NV DMV for inspection so I could get a NV title in my name and, yes they did inspect my frame for the stamped vin number. I would definitely check with the DMV. Monday is going to be crazy since DMV was closed both Fri&Sat because of the 4th. Good luck.

Not only knowing what's correct can avert problems, but the DMV can be the source for solutions, so one can comply with the law. I've lived in several different states, and DC, and the requirements vary in each of them. Sometimes a state DMV website has FAQ's that help, or a contact for clarification of questions not addressed by the FAQ.

i understand why they inspected your frame. my 68 is already titled in Nevada and was previously registered years ago.
they always inspect vins on all out of state vehicles. but I will stop by this morn and double check.
thanks

Re: Las Vegas frame swap regulations

What a pain in the ass.. so I went to the dmv and I got all the info and paperwork I needed on how to go about getting it done. But they say even then it can be an "2015" assembled vehicle. You kidding me. As if I were building a kit car!! Frustrating.

I would grind off the VIN off the frame, get some number/ letter stamps and stamp your VIN into the frame.

Re: Las Vegas frame swap regulations

If you own a clear title to both the frame you want to use and the body you have, the process should be fairly easy. Do not ignore your state laws because it is too inconvenient. Many people have gotten in trouble for doing things incorrectly.

Re: Las Vegas frame swap regulations

Well guys , went over to tuckers classic auto parts out here in Las Vegas and I found a bit cheaper route and less complicated. I guess I'm going to be cutting my frame. Tuckers is going to be helping me out with the frame. Thanks for the help.

Tom over at Tucker's does great work. Sounds like a good choice . He will do it right.

I would think downgrading from 3/4 to 1/2 ton frame is a big issue-legally speaking

Hey Josh, did you ever get this sorted out? Did Tuckers handle the frame modifications for you?
