1964 CewCab build

I had planned to build a 64 short box truck my boss was telling me about his old Merc that he was building and I told him I was looking for a 64 poject truck and he said He knew a guy who had one so he called the guy and he said he had one but is was a short box crew cab, so I had to see it for myself I didnt think they made such an animal well I went by and ended up buying it. It was in real bad shape but I had to have it we have the bed pretty well done and have started on the cab, here is a list of things we plan to do to it.
1. bag it
2. 40"x 55" sliding rag
3. shave door
4. suicide doors
5. install 61 impala dash
6. 22" wheels
7. build custom bed cover
8. flip tail gate
9. custom leather interior
10 power windows
11. custom console
12. 2" cowl hood

the truck has a super short 5' bed so it will be short and wide
I will post pics as we move threw the build

I have enjoyed the other builds i have seen on here.

My wife thinks I am crazy, I just think she lacks vision.
I bet no one else has been there.

Re: 1964 CewCab build

I am doing most of the metal work myself, I did make the Rocker pieces and welded them in, I am probably going to fab the coul hood myself unless I can find one made out of steel I dont really want a glass hood.
I will post pics of the dash next week that 61 impala dash is the real show piece in this truck the lines of the dash go great with the lines on the truck. I have it welded in and it looks like it came in the truck factory I am real happy with it.

I knew I was alone on that one. Not

Re: 1964 CewCab build

I think that is a 63 gmc?

I like the 61 dash idea, I will be interested to see how it looks.

If you can I would love to see some pics of how the headliner looks now, before you cut it for the rag top.

great build so far!

Re: 1964 CewCab build

what he is saying is that the 63 has knee knocker windshield. 64 does not.. They changed the body style. The never made a knee knocker (wrap around windshield) in 64

Re: 1964 CewCab build

About the wife and no vision thingy... my wife is a born and raised hot rod girl. sometimes she lacks the vision too with what I'm ripping into/ chopping up, I just say to her... "hun you know I've been turnin **** to sugar since picking up my daddys axe"

-Shiny

PS, lets hear details on the rear suicide hinges....
Oh and I might have some '61 dash bits leftover from our Nomad build if you need anything more.

Do you have/ or are going to use a 61 impala wheel to go with the dash too?
