New "Pasture" Find 1971 Blazer 2wd

Some people have barn finds, well I have a pasture find. I bought a '71 K5 2wd today, I knew this truck when I was in high school as a good friend owned it. We use to cruise town in it back in the early '90's. It was just an old farm truck back then and it is in even worse shape now. It has a 350 rebuilt back in 1990 with about 35,000 miles since the rebuild. It was last driven on the road in 2001 when the 350 turbo failed. He parked it in a cow pasture where it lived a rough life.

When it was bought new locally it was ordered without a rear seat. Is that rare?

Let me know how I did in buying it? It is rough but I bought it for $400.00, which is what scrap metal prices are here and it has a title.

Title frame and a crappy tub are worth $600 to $1,000, so I would say you did well. You've got a lot more there than that.

2WD is big time rare, seat or no seat... Lucky.

Nice find.. I think you got a good deal..

I think with a little TLC that would be a nice little hot rod truck.

I would have bought it for $400! Nice find. So, the big question is, what's the plans for it?

Reminds me of when I got my 68 chevy CS. I got it for 400 bucks. and it runs and drives!

Very nice find nonetheless!

I would have had a hard time saying no at $1000, so I think $400 is a STEAL!!

I have not decided what I'm going to do with it. I have a '68 short bed thats tore down in the process of a rebuild, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I have a couple of options:

1) Put a transmission in it, clean it up and drive it kinda like it is (it will have to have a driver floor pan replaced, as it is really bad)

2) Do a frame on restore

3) Sale it?

Re: New "Pasture" Find 1971 Blazer 2wd

I've really been thinking about what to do with this Blazer. I leaning toward putting another transmission in it, different wheels and tires on and driving it some. It would be cool to cruise this summer topless!

I'd definitely recommend that option. fix the tranny, fix the driver's floor plan, and take the top off. You'll probably get a really good offer to sell it that way too

Re: New "Pasture" Find 1971 Blazer 2wd

Ok so I'm starting to look for a cheap transmission to install. I need to drain the gas tank and work on cleanning the engine up to try and start it. I'm excited, now I just need time and MONEY.. of course don't we all?

Re: New "Pasture" Find 1971 Blazer 2wd

Fix what needs to be fixed to make it safe/run. Change the body mount bushings. Take off the top and drive! You won't regret it. There is nothing like rolling in an early
blazer without a top!!!!

Re: New "Pasture" Find 1971 Blazer 2wd

You stole it for 400... To even find one now days would cost a guy that much to even look at one. I got one a few years back for 1000 that was about that shape and I smile about that price everyday. I say lose the top drop in a tranny and some sick wheels and you will have the coolest blaze around. Nothing compares to a 2wd Blaze JMHO....
And more picts please......

Re: New "Pasture" Find 1971 Blazer 2wd

Going to sell my 2wd Blazer. I have worked on it off and on. Got it running, put a used transmission in it, seats and tires. I still have electrical problems and it has frustrated me for the last time. I listed it on Ebay in the local sale section. I have tried to up-load pics but I keep getting errors.
