Engine Progress...yes she has Red nuts!
Here is the 350 engine that is going in my 71 Torch Red SWB. It's still missing the red fan and a few other items. I have been having fun painting up all the goodies as I am patiently waiting for my truck to finished. All the blueish-silver is Rustolium Hammered silver, the nuts are torch red and the block is Chevy orange. Everything that was black in the engine bay is now Hammered Silver and all the nuts are Torch Red. I'm thinking it's going to be sweet siting in a Torch Red truck with Chrome inner fender wells! Thanks for looking!

Looks good. The only thing I can say is it looks like you used the front gasket on the manifold. I could never get it to seal with that gasket, Too thick for the side gaskets. Check for water leaks before you run it hard. I finally used the felpro side gaskets and RTV on the front and rear. Just a thought.

I learned the hard way not to use the front and rear intake gaskets. Not looking forward to repairing. I think the contrast of the flaming nuts looks good. I'm sure you will be the only one with them!

Thanks for the nice comments! You guys do have me thinking maybe I should remove the intake and get rid of the front and rear rubber gaskets. These are not the type that have the center rubber bead. They are the Victor brand from Napa that are flat. I asked the parts guy if they have reports of the front and rear seals leaking and he told me "No". Should I remove them before I put this engine back in the truck?

I'm not saying you will have a problem I am saying I had problems with Felpro and Mr. Gasket that was listed for the performer intake. The front and rear rubber type gasket is to thick for the sides and you can't seal the side water jackets because of this. When I first did it I thought I would follow the directions (first mistake going against the male grain). fill oil, fill water/antifreeze get to the top od rad and I see green coming out the manifold, WTF? empty water empty oil, take a road trip for gaskets they only had Mr. gasket for intake. Get back read direction (what am I crazy) put everything on fill oil fill water only intake leak same place driverside head-manifold. Tear it down take a straight edge to the manifold and head both straight! Head back out for another gasket NONE anywhere had to order them, When they come in screw the direction RTV front and back side gasket another dap RTV on the joint where it meets front and back throw it together wait an hour fill it fire it up and good to go.
So when you go to fill it pull the oil plug fill the RAD with water and watch for water top and bottom. after abit plug it put in oil and then fire it up. JMHO
