Intro and question

Just bought a 68 C-10 so the next step was to join this board--I do have a questions--truck has inline 6 with a manual 3 speed.The trans won't go i 3rd gear-
should I pay the $250 to have the local trans shop fix it
or find another 3 speed
or ??
Thanks

Well, let me be the first to say...NICE lookin SWB...welcome to the board from central Ohio.

Myself, I say you gotta make your plans now.
Are you keepin the inline?
is it a weekend toy, or your only vehicle...or somewhere inbetween?
Do you ever go over 55?

IMO, if you were to retain the inline, I would go with a T-5 tranny out of a camaro. They are strong enough to live forever hooked to a stock 250, and you can retain your 3.73 gears so it is somewhat peppy(ish) in town, yet hit overdrive on the freeway, and you'll ba able to cruise all day with out the thoughts of rods exiting through the side of the block.

and if you plan on v8ing it, why not, start collecting parts and just go ahead and do it ? that way your not putting money into sumthing your going to take back out , or are you going to leave it a 3 speed ?

I say hit the boneyards for a replacement. why spend money fixing a trans only to swap it out later. if nothing else, you will then have 2 swap meet items later.

Is the problem with the tranny or the linkage? If it’s a column shift, those linkages hang up easily when worn.
