easiest way to Id what inline 6 I have?

when i bought the truck the PO told me it was a 250 but am hoping its a 292. whats the easiest way to ID my motor?

the lifter cover plates on the passenger side of the engine just below the spark plugs... The 292 has some pretty large wide cover plates as opposed to the 250...

Pics. The pass sidr motor mount is offset on a 292. Side cover is taller on a 292.

Another real easy way to tell is the 292 has the large coolant bypass hose off of the front of the engine that the smaller engines do not. Check the pictures above for the big black hose in the second pic.

There are differences in motor mounts too, but the side covers and bypass hose will positively ID the difference.
