"Remodeling" my white trash shop

For some reason none of my buddies came over today???

When I say remodel you must think it was decent to begin with right? Wrong. I bought this place in early 2002 from it's original owner/builder. The owner was a metal arts teacher at a local high school. He's fab'd up all kinds of stuff for the neighbors in the 31 years he lived here. Anyway this was his "shop." My friends referred to it more as a torture chamber from all the wicked stuff we found. Luckily I live on an acre and no one can see this thing. In Ca an acre is a lot dirt believe it or not.

So I don't have pics of the left side before I gutted it and began using all of the excess lumber to build a work bench. But I do have photos of the right side. Pretty crappy huh? This is the good side. After removing a couple thousand pounds of wood and debree, not to mention about 2 Gallons of rat turds (we need a vomiting smilie by the way) I was finally able to start building.

Briefly let me state how truly gnarly this shed is. All four corners are telephone poles !!! It's 15x20 and the exterior walls and ceiling are corrogated(sp) metal and fiberglass.

I found a nice 19ft 4"x4" in there and used that as the foundation of the work bench. It extends from the front to the rear telephone pole. Everhting else is left over material like pressure treated lumber and even some fancy redwood. The legs are all 1ft deep in the dirt and all of the framing is held to together with 6" lag screws. This thing is freeking indestructable. Only half of the workbench is built. I was tired. After this side is done I'm gonna lay some old 12x12 concrete tiles I have laying around. That'll be a decent floor. It's dirt right now. Had some old metal cabinets...those will go up. Boy once the right side is done this might be a good spray booth too!

Did you see the cement mixer contraption. It would have taken a day to unbolt so I had a guy help me move enough to get the building going. This was one of the "projects" left behind.

A place inside where it's dry is just fine.I don't see a thing wrong with that myself.I worked in this place fulltime for 3 years, and still do off and on when needed.Dirt floors, leaks when it rains, and floods if it rains too hard.Gets the job done, which is all that matters to me.

Re: "Remodeling" my white trash shop

Luckily this one stays very dry. It even has kind of a carport entrance where I might poor a 12x15 pad of concrete. I'll use the pad with I need to put the Blazer on jack stands or when I have to bust out the table saw.

I really can't wait to have it functional. It's been a mess for four years now.

Looks good to me. I used what was on the property when I bought it and my avatar picture is my shop that I work in. It does have a concrete floor and it's low maintenance. Works for me.

RunTMCFan. I didn't think there was an acre of ground left in San Diego that has not been developed! It still beats a tarp nailed to the side of the house.
