Dailey drivers

I'm thinking about selling my 07 nnbs silverado Z71 and buying a c10 to drive instead it will not be driven everyday but will pull my boat to the lake and don't want to be scared of jumping in it and driving anywhere me and my dad are building a 71 c10 2wd(show truck) and I've always liked these trucks, main reason is I'm tired of paying insurance truck is payed for but I have a lsx s10 to drive back and forth to work. I'm wanting a 4x4 for winter weather and towing etc. just getting opinions on whether I should do this or not and would like to know ride quality of the 4x4 with a small 2-4" lift, mpg's etc.

Neither will be as good as your 07 silverado. And this is coming from someone who drives a 71 c10 60 miles a day.

You won't get the mileage or the ride, but I still enjoy every day I drive my 72 K10 (396). It doesn't have the creature comforts, but I don't regret having it as my DD. Liability insurance is cheap and gas is cheap compared to a new truck.

I don't see why not, you have a newer vehicle to fall back on and your dad can help if you need to find parts to keep it on the road in fact that's basically what I did back in the late 70s with a 58 I bought for 100$, hell yeah go for it and enjoy!

This is my 72 Cheyenne that is now a daily driver. It has a 350 with a q-jet/350 turbo trans and a 3:73 gear with 235/70/15 tires and gets a whopping 11.5 MPG
no matter how and where I drive it.

I also drive it 50 - 150 miles a day depending on the job. You will not pass any gas stations.

It does ride a little harsh as it has leaf springs from the factory but I like it that way. I like to have control over the truck rather than the truck have control over me. I am not a fan of the newer technology although I know it is better for safety and fuel economy.

By the way, the daily driver is getting ready for a 3000 mile journey from Michigan to Oregon in about 2 weeks from now. Wish all of us luck and pray there is a gas station at least every 250 miles

Thanks for all the responses guys, I'm just throwing it up in the air right now and now I'm leaning more towards trying to trade the s10 for a 2wd c10. I have been turning wrenches for ten years so maint. Should not be a problem, I am a big fan of the LS based engines and would probably do a swap anyways for fuel economy. I have a 5.3 sitting in the shop waiting on a donor vehicle.

When I drove mine from Carolina to Missouri (about 1100 miles) thrre weren't to many gas stations that I passed lol. It was a good ride though.
Probably 10-12 miles per gallon

I am sure once I get south of Michigan (due to the lovely road surface here) the ride will get 100% better

Well said TBONE! I like more control also. I like pulling my manual choke to start the truck, I like a manual shift, I like a dimmer button in the floor, I like a radio I can turn on without the key.

I love my 2002 Honda but I don't want any car newer than that. I don't like these new "keyless" start cars. My mom has one and half the time I can't get it to start or even shut down fully.

Give me a real starter button......like on a '51 Chevy sedan....and I'll be very happy!
