laminated glass
I got some doors off a 64 C60, & they have laminated glass(w/frame all around glass). Never seen this on a 64-66, thought that was over w/knee knocker windshield. Anyone else seen this? Brian

Hey Brian,just looking back at some of the old posts and saw this one.I don't know what determined which trucks got which glass,but I've seen laminated glass on lots of them.I guess by the "knee knocker" windshields you mean the 60-63 wraparound windshield,and I did see more of those pickups with the laminated glass.My 61 C10 has laminated,my 63 C10 parts truck doesn't.Most all of the 60-66 big trucks had laminated glass,as does my 65 C80.The laminated glass uses the same division bar,regulator and track as the other,just takes different window felts.I have often wondered what was the reason behind the laminated glass;I know Ford used it on some of their old trucks too.It is definitely heavier,maybe stronger too?

It IS heavier, it will crack but stay together as tempered shatters into pieces. I am thinking of using it, would be a theft deterrant-its pretty tough to hack out that inner plastic. This is the only 64-66 truck I have ever seen w/laminate, it was sold in Sept 63 so it was an early truck. Maybe that is why. I had to buy cab+doors, guy wouldn't part. Now I need to find another truck to use this cab on! Brian

Really haven't seen that many 64-66 pickups with the laminated glass,but nearly all of the big trucks(C40 up)that I've seen had it,even the 64-66 models.When I was young I worked in a small garage where we worked on lots of rice trucks and dump trucks,and I remember the metal band around the windows back then.Like I said,my 65 C80 has it,also I bought a pair of doors off a 66 C60 beer truck with laminated glass.I'm thinking of using my C80 cab on a pickup,it's too solid to waste.The main difference I've seen is the cab mounts under the floorboard;the big truck cab has the mounts farther out,much like the 60-63 pickups.Don't think it would be a big deal to make it fit,the holes are there in the box channel under the floor,it's just the countersunk holes in the floorboard that are in the wrong place.Between the torch and welding machine,I'm pretty sure I can figure something out.

Well, I got the cab pressure washed, unloaded & stuffed into the corner of the shop. Has 3 marker lights on roff that still work. No rust except bottom of one cab corner which was 4-5 inches deep of wheat,mud,tools,etc. There is some differences in the firewall/pedal setup as the C60 had hyd clutch. Never noticed the cab mounts being diff. I'm thinking of using the framed glass in my pickup, kinda looks cool. Brian

Luckily,being a fire truck my C80 spent the first 35 years of it's life in a closed insulated building.The only rust I have seen is the lower corner of one door has a couple little pecks showing through the paint.The original filler in the rain gutter is still soft.All the glass is good,and all the original rubber is still perfect,including the windshield and door gaskets.The worst part is there are lots of drilled holes to fill,like where the bubble gum lights were mounted on the roof and five cab clearance lights,which all still work.It also has the two big chrome spotlights mounted at each upper corner of the windsheild,and they drilled through the windshield pillars for the inside control handles.And of course the West Coast mirrors on the doors.It has the hydraulic clutch too,as did I think most all of the big trucks and 60-62 pickups.All I should have to do is block off the hyd clutch push rod hole in the firewall and just use regular pickup mechanical linkage,that is if I stay with a manual trans.
