[60-66 Nut]

Hello to all.Please allow me to take a moment to say that I am very proud to belong to a group discussion centered around my favorite vehicles of all time,the 60-66 Chevy & GMC trucks.I have long been a fan of these great old trucks.My "first car" was a well-worn 65 stepside given to me by my father,the first truck he ever owned.Since then,I have probably had twenty or so of them,some parts trucks and some drivers.As a mechanic and amateur body man,I peiced together several of these old trucks,and gained quite a bit of knowledge on them over the years.One of my most prized possesions is my 65 C80 with the original 409 V8,the cab and chassis of a fire pumper truck that I used to work on in the small-town shop where I worked as a mechanics' helper nearly thirty years ago.The truck is nearly rust-free,with 13,000 original miles(only used for fires and parades),and the 409 still runs perfect. Regretably,I do not have one as a driver right now;rebuilding a sixty year old house is taking up all my spare time.I really enjoy reading all the posts,and I hope that maybe I can help someone with a problem.Although I don't care much for the new fads,I do appreciate all the work involved with them.I'm pretty much an oldie,still stuck on chrome reverse and slotted aluminum wheels,with the truck sitting pretty much the way it belongs.Sorry for rambling,and again,thanks to everyone for keeping these old trucks alive,no matter how you like them.

Thanks Woogeroo,much appreciated.Very happy to be here.By the way,took a look at your truck pictures,nice old truck.Looks like someone used a few parts from a 67-72 style truck,like the tandem master cyl which you pointed out,and also the auto column looks like that style too.The original column for the 60-66 trucks did not have the frame around the gear indicator.The shifter also looks like the later model,the older ones did not have the bend right before the knob.Looks like the original steering wheel,though.I don't think the TH350 came out until 1966,most of these trucks came with the 2 speed powerglide.I have not seen,but have heard of a 65 or 66 3/4 ton camper special with the TH400.The TH400 came out around 64,just hadn't ever seen one in these trucks.The A/C unit looks like a typical after-market under dash unit,and the compressor appears to be the one that came with the 92 engine.All together,it made a neat setup.Oh,and also,the 66 park brake pics don't match what your truck should have had.1966 was the first year for the intermediate cable behind the trans.The 65 should have a bar behind the trans that the two rear cables hook to.Again,it's possible that things could have gotten mixed around.Like I said though,nice old truck.Do you plan to keep it original or customize it a bit? Keep us posted.

Thanks Hemmit.Nice to be where people can talk to each other about trucks and stuff,rather than argue about them.Funny you should mention Old Truck Nut.I've gone by that name for quite a while somewhere else but someone already has it here,so I had to use something different.Where exactly is Peru located in Indiana? Got ken-folk-in-laws in Greenfield,been there a few times.Man I wish we had your summer climate down here in Louisiana.Don't envy your winters though.Thanks again for all the warm welcomes!
