TPI Conversion Wiring Question.

Can anybody tell me what I need to keep out of a factory 87 IROC harness to make the engine in my 68 work??
I'm in the process of pulling the motor/trans out of the car and there are a ton"o"wires!! What can I eliminate?? I want to keep it as simple as possible.

Ive done the TBI the hard way, stripping out the old wiring harness, ITS A REAL PAIN IN THE A$$. I wouldn highly suggest a painless wiring kit, it will save you alot of grief. If you need any of the wiring schematics(sp?) I have the books that you will need. Email me if you are interested in the books, or hearing of my experience with the TBI swap. Darren

My TPI unit came from an 88IROC and had the factory harness on it as well. I decided to go with an aftermarket wiring harness. The amount of headaches and frustration it saved in the long run made it well worth the money. An aftermarket harness also makes the conversion look a lot better - the only wires you have are just the ones you actually need.

I rebuilt my harness, it wasn't too terribly tough, just need to be patient, and check everything three times, then solder once. There are great wiring diagrams on Chevy Thunder that can show you what all you need (most of it)

I think 1/2 the fun is making the factory harness work. Otherwise it's kinda like buying a truck already painted(not that theres anything wrong with that, just not as much fun)

I'd agree with you doing the harness yourself

The only stuff I found I was pulling out was AIR system stuff, and the 700r4 lockup stuff (if I remember right...) I am using the EGR on my setup. Just need to find a solenoid for it now...

I should have my unit fired up pretty quick, just gotta break my cam in, and drill my headers for the 02 sensor bung...

If you want to buy the books that should be no problem, i really doubt I will be using them because I am buying a Ramjet tomorrow, nice easy hookups. Pm me if you would like to see the books. Darren
