remove column shift linkage?

My truck was converted to a 5 speed before I bought it. I am in the process of body work and cleaning up any unnecessary stuff.

My question is: Can you remove the 3 speed linkage from the column without something bad happening? If so, how?

Thanks,
Steven

Re: remove column shift linkage?

I have a column out of a chevy van that I ground down the shifter bowl so that it was smooth and then welded the shifter arm to the housing at the bottom where the linkage goes, now it looks just like a factory floor shift tilt column
